Another local lad trying to make an impression to.... Danny Spencer AKA Dan The Rapper Man http://www.reverbnation.com/dantherapperman
As much as people like to complain about radio humberside they do some good stuff too. The have a show called radio humberside introduces which features local musicians not signed up with record labels and there is some real talent on there! I listen in every week and my friends here in New Orleans in the music biz do too, look no further than this show if you want to hear about the music scene in Hull you might be suprised at just how good it is
I keep forgetting to listen to this , Sunday evenings at 8pm i think. What approach do they take with the show ?is it usually live or demo tapes ? interviews ? y'know im gonna have to make a point and listen to these , tho next sunday im in Leeds to watch Real Estate live yeeeeeeeeah!
Hello all, long term observer and first contribution - thought I'd chip in and mention that the Fruit is offering a really good night tonight for £4 - Last Winter Dance Party, White Pilots, Mammal Hum brought to you by JAM! Jody McKenna to open around 8.30 - should be a very good night... Cheers, Wesrock
I think he on about his 5th album or something now i know he sent me down 3 of them to pass around down here haha not a big fan of that type of music but i like it (this is @tigerspissonweeds stupid phone decided not to put the quote)
I listened to this band. It's proper ****ing mental. I don't know what to make of it. Thanks for the tip.
Check out PurpleWorm Records who are a local record label with quite a few good local bands signed up
They usually have a band live in the studio and play anything new that has been recorded the previous week and tell people where everybody is playing live locally in the next week or two. Very interesting listening
There's a great young band playing Ull called The P45's(don't scoff at the name, they've never heard of UB40) they play mostly covers, but they've had a good reaction wherever they've played. Their next gig is at punch bowl on 10th March. The P45's P45's P45's P45'sP45'sP45'sP45'sP45's. Er the P45's. Punch 10th March !!! Yer ok im trying to plug em but, trust me they are very good. That's the P45's. On the 10th MARCH AT PUNCH Oh and they're City fans ! Punch 10th MARCH. The P45's
The Cardboard Cutouts are good local indie pop group. La Bete Blooms are also a talented band. Plenty of good bands around the City, best places to check them out are obviously The Adelphi and The Sesh at Linnet and Lark. Lamp and Fruit are the other main venues for local bands although both host a lot of upcoming out of town bands. Oh and Ringside which is pretty **** imo! (hardly anyone turns up)
I'll second all of these bands. Cloud Nothings have an interesting guitar sound and Black Lips lead vocalist has a gay preacher for a dad. True story. Anyway, I've been digging Local Natives and Beirut a lot recently.
yeah , i like local natives also , i could also add , white denim , the Shins , Modest Mouse (is Johnny Marr still guesting ?) , Avi Buffallo , Male bonding , boogie boarders , Morning Benders , TV Girl , Surfer blood TV on the radio (cookie mtn) , Wooden Shjips , Great lake swimmers ( for chills) and Yeasayer .
