I promise you, the anti Lewis brigade will get bigger if Sky is anything close to what ITV was like. F1 fans will get very bored hearing every weekend what Lewis had for breakfast and what celeb girlfriend (maybe, maybe not) he is going out with and why his overtaking skills are somehow more interesting than others. F1 fans want to hear fact and unbiased views, not ****e and gossip that please the greenhorn F1 fans. Seriously I would rather go through another Schumi dominance era than having to stomach 1 year of ITV-Hype-Brit loving crap. They do it always with the England football team and you wonder why half the planet laugh at us because of the public getting sucked into it.
I understand how you feel on this Silver, but believe me, other countries are FAR worse! I travel to many countries during a season and often get chance to see other sporting coverage of various events. And in spite of the gushing from the likes of James Allen, we get a very well-rounded view and presentation in the UK, compared to other countries.
I've seen races in Italy and Spain this year, and the commentary was quite funny with its one sidedness. I was always expecting it as I think its only natural to get behind the locals. I also find it slightly bemusing that a drivers fans can be the reason for disliking a driver, I really do.
It seems appropriate to drag this old thread up based on the latest steaming pile of **** from Benson. (I notice you've already commented BLS) Firstly, how can he possibly say that the new Mclaren is the first to be unveiled - we've already seen the Caterham! Before we've even seen a car hit the track in anger, does he really need to bring up Hamilton's mental state in an article supposedly about the new cars? After reading the whole thing, 90% is recycled old news, and nothing exactly specific. The 'ugly noses' debate has already been covered in another article by him, Hamilton has been done to death in the dribble he's produced over the winter, speculation on Massa has been ongoing for the last 2 seasons, and he writes off Schumacher's chances despite the fact we've not even seen the car, let alone him in it, yet. For all we know Mercedes have finally found a niche in the tech regs which allow them to produce a car like those the Schumacher of old liked, and we may see him back to his best. Absolute waste of time that article, I really wouldn't waste the time it takes to read it, watch paint dry instead or something.
I saw that too. Benson, as so often, is desperate for something to write - anything, any tenuous link to Lewis; Lewis + Seb, even better. With that level of insight, sorry inanity, I'm surprised he wasn't snapped up by Sky.
Andrew Benson sometimes comes up with some slightly good stuff sometimes but the rest of the time it is complete drivvel and BBC Hamilton love ins. Ricciardo was neck and neck with webber yesterday
Guys you beat me to it. I do not understand why Benson is even reporting on testing? An article each day, all trotted out with the compulsory "Lap times in testing don't give a true indication of speed" line, yet he then spends the rest of the article comparing times! If you've just signed Gary Anderson as a 'technical analyst', then send him out to Jerez to look at all the new cars! It seems obvious to me that Charlie Whiting going to check exhaust legality has the potential to be the biggest debate up until, and possibly beyond, the first few races. So why not send Anderson with a camera to get some snaps of the exhaust exits, and let him do his job and tell us whether he thinks they are legal or not!
I wouldn't so much say they love Hamilton, they are just desperate to somehow shoehorn his name into every story, regardless of how little good/bad/anything he has done to deserve it.
Forza was posting reports from someone in Jerez, I don't know who, and it was fascinating: from the rasp of Red Bull seemingly still "blowing" their exhaust to Maldonado's "excellent" driving skills in the new Williams - surprising stuff! I suspect that Benson is told to find a Hamilton angle whenever possible and moreover to write as much for the casual fan as the devotee but it's usually pointless and boring too. I agree that he occasionally reveals something good but it's all too rarely for me. What's the point of repeating what everyone already knows and is pretty insignificant anyway?
His latest helping, if a little behind: Ferrari admit there is 'room for improvement' on new car Disappointed he didn't manage to shoe horn Hamilton into there somehow. He mentioned Alonso so he could have said "Alonso, who was once Hamilton's team mate"
That's what I mean, we knew this stuff already. Where are the scoops? Isn't he meant to be their chief reporter?
Not again?! I'm having visions of Babs "Absolutely Delighted" Slater standing over Benson with a whip: 'Not bad, Andrew... Now, DO IT AGAIN!!!" Poor old moon-faced Bumson
to be fair he has to write something, it's what we pay our license fee for. Regardless of how we feel about Hamilton, hemakes 'good copy', there are probably more 'newbie' F1 fans because of Hamilton, and he probably has a bigger following in this country than any other F1 driver. that said he does write a lot of ****.
Has anyone seen the article about the prospects of Mercedes this season? Despite the title, he talks about Hamilton before even considering the Mercedes.
