well I can't stand lampard, he's been off his game a while. If it wasn't for gerrard's injury recently I think he would prove that he's still very much got it but he has a bit of time.
This is an important time for England, the right choices could result in success but we could be in trouble with silly decisions. For me though is a bit like city, england has to change their style of play. We don't have the players such as beckham and shearer to cross and head it in, or counter attack football. Not suggesting we become barcelona but we have very quick, gifted young players so I think we need to keep it on the floor. the pace of our wingers, walcott, oxlaide, young, johnson is really something to be excited about imo. I don't like arsenal but the walcott/wilshere/oxlaide trio could prove very useful. My biggest fear would be the return of Terry (not that he's left yet though) with the argument that we need "experience" .
The FA might have already decided behind closed doors that Terry won't be selected for the Euros and the new manager might have to comply with this, who knows, personally I hope he isn't picked because I don't think we can afford to have him at the back against the likes of Germany and Spain
Capello has/had the best winning percent of any England manager (66.67 or 2/3 games). We lost 6 games out of 42 under Capello, so 14.2%.
I can't believe that some people are actually suggesting that Jagielka and Cahill are a better defensive partnership than Terry and Ferdinand! Say what you like about JT, he's still the outstanding CB in the England squad and Cahill, even more so Jagielka, are nowhere near him. The future is more along the lines of Jones/Smalling or even Dawson is above the other 2 IMO. If Harry takes the job, and if he sets up the same way as he does at Spuds then I'd expect to see this lining up at the first game of the Euros......... Hart Johnson Terry Ferdinand Cole Parker Gerrard Lennon Young Wellbeck Defoe
Which England players are outstanding? Ive said for years the only genuine world class player - in that he is in the top 3 in the world in his position - is Ashley Cole. Now I think he isnt at his best so in my eyes we have none.
Smalling/Jones with Cahill /Jagielka as back up, Cole left-back, Walker right back, thats the basis of a great defence, is Ferdinand able to play a full tournament these days, he will go but it's a risk, for me its bye bye Terry. Whatever happens Smalling / Jones will be the centre-back pairing sooner or later.
I only just found out this has happened. I was in a musical bubble last night with my continental beers, all media switched off. Well, I am surprised. Especially since his just jizzed away the remaining time of his £6m a year contract. Suppose he's made plenty from it already. For what it's worth, I actually understand his frustration. I don't like John Terry, and I don't like racists neither, but Terry hadn't yet been proven guilty. Taking the captaincy away prematurely just smacked of trying to obtain FootballAgainstRacism Browny points. All could have been avoided of course if they'd just done the enquiry as soon as they could have. Job done! I can't say I'm sad, as his time in charge has been ultimately disappointing. Very decent to the point where it actually really mattered, when suddenly his dictator style of management faltered, in no small part I should suspect because he can't speak much of the lingo. I think he became almost a bit of a joke figure with some of the players during the World Cup, from things I'd read. I'll never forgive him for the 4-1 game against Germany. Just like I'll never forgive Gareth Barry for his completely limp attempts at tracking back for one of their goals. We move on. Only Harry as a credible option it seems.
They were saying on the news this morning that Capello was not on anywhere near £6m. That figure was actually what he could have earned in a year, but only a year in which we won the World Cup.
agreed that its hardly a surprise that Capello walked but Spurs fans have always known that one day Harry would possibly be the England manager after the Euros 2012. Harry just might have to change his summer plans now.
He won't have got it all then! Would they pay the same size salary to the new manager? Is it sustainable? If not £6m, it was still massive.
Would agree accept for 2 of the defence. WALKER(spurs as right full back), Richards & Jones as centreBacks. Jagielka and Cahill are good back ups but not quite good enough against the worlds best imo. Roll on Brazil 2014.
People keeping ****ing themselves into a froth about Capello's win percentage. Which stems more or less entirely from friendlies & qualifiers. Come the tournaments...not so good. Be honest, did you take solace in our immense win percentage when we drew 0-0 with Algeria, and lost 4-1 to Germany? I didn't.
I might be in the minority but I can't see why a lot of posters bang on about Jones and to a lesser extent Smalling. Both have decent potential but have done nowhere near enough to be held in such high regard. Neither are anywhere near as good as Terry.
Agree. Jones obviously has ability, but is completely reckless at times. The usual **** gets trotted out "He's like Duncan Edwards". Then he scores a frankly ludicrous own goal and you think 'Bring back Terry...'
