With the news today of the Allam's intention of a significant investment in Hull Ionians RU, any bets on the new training ground/academy being at Brantingham? Nice and handy for the new ground at Melton of course
Not to mention The Triton! As an asside, whilst we are talking about our Great owner, Is Assem Allam a christian? Think I read somewhere one of his philanthropic projects is the restoration of a cathederal in Cairo.
The money has been with Ionians for a while, most of it has gone on players to help them to survive relegation apparently. I think a new training ground is long overdue, when we got relegated it was one of the big points Stephen Hunt criticized when he left the club.
Strange that a muslim should donate to a christian church. Egypt has 10% of it's population christian, so i wondered.
I don't think he's particularly strong with his religious beliefs, he just likes anything that makes people happy.
Know nothing about rugger but according to an Ionians first teamer, he has already invested £50k this season just to stay up. They were bottom at the time, and have bought/ loaned several Rotherham players, as well as a Western Somoan international. They are now well clear. I havent followed it but is that pretty much what has happened so far? The message was very much that this was for starters and the overall goal was to reach the division just below the top national league. Wondered if his motive was to invest in East Riding sport as opposed Hull, to totally piss off HullCC. Similar thing to him moving that squash tournament to East Riding?
You serious? Cant remember where we are at with that story. It was due to be at KC, but he moved it to East Riding? Was it the world championship?
The story I've heard off a couple of people is that he promised them 50k, they spent about 20 before he gave it to them, and only ended up giving them 20k in the end. I wouldn't imagine it would be anything to do with the council to be honest, I think its more that without the money I's would have been relegated, and gone bust as they've lost about 40k turnover since Hull FC moved their training facilities to YPI
what will Stephen Hunt criticize then when wolverhampton get relegated ? excuses excuses thats all that lot gave in 2010.
Well the training ground at Cott hardly looks like the sort the belongs in the Premier League. I don't think he used it as an excuse, but said if the club was going to progress it needed investment in the training facilities, which I agree with.
I like the way the security camera on ours appears to be pointing at a drain cover. Is that getting stolen the thing that could cost the club most to put right?
Tom Cairney's opinion on the matter (from Twitter this morning): "Training in this snow this morning should be eventful we could do with an indoor pitch #freezing" I knew the facilities weren't great, but not even an indoor pitch? Jesus.
