Chris Hughtons Birmingham up to third in The Championship.
Like a lot of Toon fans I am pleased to see him doing so well.

Did a great job for us but the powers that be decided to get rid.
I would like to see Brum get in The Prem just for Chris and to see how he got on.

    Discuss.

Considering the mess Birmingham were in at the start of the season (even more so than us when we were down there) he's done an amazing job.

Clearly show's he's got something about him.

Can't wait for him to bring a team to St James.

What do you think about something like:

    "You're always welcome Hughton,
But you're going home with nothing,
    Always welcome Hu - ghton,
But you're going home with nothing" (repeated indefinitely and in ever greater volume)

The reception he gets will shadow any former players that have been brought to St James in a long time.

Should set it up for a good atmosphere!

It'll probably mirror when Sir Les returned for Leicester in 2003. He scored and we still applauded him

I was thinking of having a thread devoted to monitoring their progress this season. I can't but help myself willing Birmingham to do well. The job he has done there after the exodus of about 20 1st team squad members is unreal and just shows the quality he has. His sacking was a disgrace but at least we have continued his good work, and he has got himself a nice job. He deserves to be in the PL and given the time he wasn't afforded with us.

This, however I'm very pleased with Pardew. Hopefully Chris can prove our board wrong and take Birmingham forward.

Aye Pardew has worked out well and seems to have really grown into the role. Really pleased with his work. Some look back and say "see Ashley was right" but its based on incomplete information. End of the day Hughton didn't get to finish his work. The same scouting system would have produced the same players (we know the likes of Cabaye were the targets and nothing to do with Pardew) so Hughton would have had a better players to work with. Plus he might have been able to keep Jose, now that would be some defence!

Who knows but I'm just pleased he got another good job and has proved himself again like he did with us.

Don't tease me with the thought of that defence!

I still think Pardew edges it over Hughton as a manager, but not by much. John Carver also has a lot too do with Pardew's success for me, very frustrating when hughton wasnt given the backing of an assistant but by that point I think we all knew what was coming.

Basically, Hughton didn't deserve to be sacked but Pardew has done everything we could have hoped. Chrissy's landed on his feet. Just needs to get them promoted and all is right with the world

I have a mate who asked me what Hughton was like before when he had just joined Birmingham, I told him that he was still learning and making a mistakes but seemed to learn from his mistakes quite quickly. I also said that they would probably get into play-offs with him as he is a good manager who isn't bitter, gets along with his job as best as he can. My mate seemed quite hesitant at the time and wasn't impressed with him...

...it's safe to say Hughton has won him over. Hughton is doing remarkably well at them and long may it continue.

But we'd of lost Taylor. He was ready to leave until pardew came in.

Also I'm not sure Chris Hughton would of let Barton and Nolan leave without having something to say about it.

Not being funny but I remember him giving in an interview in the build to a Tottenham v Newcastle match a few years back saying there was only one team he didn't mind Tottenham losing too and that was Newcastle.
