Just wondering what team people would put out this summer for the Euro's.

Currently i would (if all fully fit)

    Hart
    Richards - Lescott - Cahill - Cole
    Parker
    Gerrard - Jones
    Chamberlain Young
    Sturridge

when rooney comes back put him up front drop Chamberlain and put Sturridge out wide.

I think this is a decent team. bit unsure about Jones in midfield. He is a bit unproven but has performed well when he has played there. If possible i'd like Scholes to come out of retirement and fill that gap and then i think this team could really go places.

Main problem Capello has is he rarely gets to select his preferred team for friendlies because of withdrawals so he may be forced to pick players who have turned up and played together. I like Wiltshire/Gerrard/Dawson as our best options but they'll have played little football with the others.

i wouldn't start with jones in central defence. I'd switch him for either Jags or Dawson, but apart from that it looks canny.

    Wilshere ?

He hasn't played in 8 months. He's just picked up a fresh heel injury.

Don't pick anyone who isn't playing every week.

At the moment, you could do worse than stick Guthrie in his place

By most reports Wiltshire willl be fit in a month or so meaning he will play 2 months of football. Him and Gerrard are our best options in midfield and provided they get enough games in then must go. Truth be told Wiltshire is the future of our team and needs to be going to the tournament if at all possible. England have only a very remote chance of winning this tournament and need to be thinking about 2014 really.

That assumes he will impress in his two months. Maybe he will. Maybe someone else will look better in those two months.

Wilshere has played something under a season and has looked good. So did Carroll.

We need to stop assuming that certain players are the goods and have to go and actually start looking at who is playing well.

We'll agree to disagree. I think Wiltshire based on everything we know is a few cuts above most. Carroll and Wiltshire are chalk and cheese. Carroll looked impressive despite his obvious technical defects, Wiltshire is the most technically gifted player I've seen come out of this country in a while. We need to move our game forward to compete with the likes of Spain on a technical level. It is the single most important aspect of international football as we have found out.

Actually just thought of another I'd be tempted to take if fit, Cleverley.

Are you sayingyou'd pick Wilshere even if he doesn't look particularly impressive between now and the Euro's ?

If so, I think that is the type of thinking that has held back England for too long. We get the idea that a certain player is a "must" selection, and then we jam him in whether he is in form or not and whether he is the best fit in the team or not. I think this is a very bad idea and one we should stop.

If you're predicting that Wilshere will be the most impressive midfielder that England has between now and th Euro's, that's a reasonable prediction and might turn out to be true. I'd wait and see before putting his name on the team sheet though

I'd play Lescott and Jagielka together at CB, they played together for ages and were great when they played for England a few months ago (think it was against spain?).

No I just don't doubt he will perform if gets on the pitch. The kid is a genius. If he plays for 2 months then you'd have to expect him to find form in that time. If he doesn't and is poor then you'd have to leave him behind. I just can't see that situation coming about because Wiltshire is a cracking young talent. If he is and has found any sort of form it would be foolish not to take a man who is going to running our midfield over the next 10 years.

To be honest I'm not really interested in the Euros in terms of winning because I'm pretty confident we're not good enough and are still behind 3 or 4 others. I'm more intersted in building towards 2014/2016 tournaments where we might have a chance. There'll be the usual clamour from the press bigging up our chances, your usual Sun readers will buy in and believe, but the truth is we're not that good. Amongst the young players we have some real talent and we should getting them tournament experience and looking further down the line. Spain did it, Germany did it, Holland did it. But in England we're pretty arrogant when it comes to football and our national team. We head into every tournament convinced we should be winning! Yet you compare our squad with Spain, Germany or Holland and for me there's a gulf in technical levels. This is normally proven when we play them. Fair enough Capello managed to tactically outdo Spain recently but 9 times out of 10 you won't get away with it.

Trevor Brooking is the one man who has been really concerned with putting this right, rather than ignoring the technical problems we have. He realised our coaching methods were backwards and outdated and that we were losing because we didn't care for the ball enough. The fact is we have let our standards slip because of arrogance. At the last world cup they compared the number of qualified coaches in this country with the other leading nations. It was a joke, see below:

    • Only 2,769 English coaches hold Uefa's B, A and Pro badges
    • Spain has 23,995, Italy 29,420 and Germany 34,790

There is the real problem. Worse still their best coaches work with youngsters. Our best who bothered to qualify are fast tracked and work with the seniors.

England have no chance of winning Euro 2012, or World Cup 2014 or anything until at least 20 years into the future <ok>
