I've for a long time looked at this thing about playing just kids i nthe reserves and wondered what it did for us. today we played

Liverpool team: Brad Jones, Jon Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Sebastian Coates, Andre Wisdom, Conor Coady, Raheem Sterling, Jonjo Shelvey, Nathan Eccleston, Krisztian Adorjan, Fabio Aurelio.

    jones
    flanagan wisdom coates robinson
    sterling coady shelvey aurelio
    adorjan eccleston

this is a lovely mix of players IMO. we've an average keeper but experienced, coates will continue to practice his english but is still yonu gbut very classy, we've 18 year old defenders there and two have first team appearances. the midfield has aurelio playing and shelvey whos now more experience alongside our top 2 kids in coady and sterling. Finally, eccleston has some laon experience so he's stil lgot a chance.

in other words i'm not suprised we beat norwich 4-0 in the slightest and think out kids will learn mroe off this game than 10 hard losses to young reserve opposition.

i'd like to see maxi, and a few other bench warmers i nthe seniors play at this level to keep sharp and while thats harsh on the kids as ther's few games at this level i think they need to compete to play a tthis level not just get a slot and see what they do.

That is a strong reserve team, good mix of youth and experience. Really hope some of these kids make it into the first team.

Shelvey should be getting more game's for the first team. Quality young player with an eye for a pass.

Eccleston is going pretty unnoticed, but he's been excellent recently and developing an eye for goal too. With our wide men not at their best at the moment surely this kid deserves a chance? It's not like he could be any worse than how Downing has played occasionaly

It seem sthat if just a couple of the senior players are involved. Then it really brings the best out of the younger guys. I hope this continues for the rest of the season. keeps the first team members fit and gives the young uns a chance to play with experienced first teamers.

Next season without a doubt. With the way he's playing week in week out, he'll want to move if he's not involved next season.

I think honeslty theres a few there that could get in quickly. i eman ok robinson's been out but he is very classy. Wisdom has a chance cos he's got an engine and could play RB. Coady is better than spearing ever was but sterling will play very soon..... eccleston didn't go do amazing on loan though.. my impression ishe needs 5 to score one so... ok left wing, bit of pace and eagerness... its hard to say no but he's up agaisnt bellamy.

Kenny Dalglish believes the senior Liverpool players who starred for the reserves in a 4-0 win over Norwich City on Tuesday will reap the benefits of the run out.

The likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Sebastian Coates, Fabio Aurelio, Jon Flanagan and Brad Jones were named in a strong starting XI by Rodolfo Borrell and completed the 90 minutes at Melwood.

Dalglish was pleased with their attitude towards the contest and feels it will assist in keeping them in good condition as the Reds gear up for a busy month.

"It was a useful exercise," said the boss.

"It was important for the likes of Fabio, Jonjo, Flanno and Seb to get a run out, certainly better than training.

"Their attitude was right and they applied themselves in the right manner. You've got to be fair to everyone and get them as fit as you can."

Jonjo Shelvey is hoping he can play a part in a key month of fixtures for Liverpool after impressing for the reserves on Tuesday afternoon in front of Kenny Dalglish.

The midfielder scored for Rodolfo Borrell's second string in a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Norwich City at Melwood.

And with the likes of Dalglish, Steve Clarke and Kevin Keen watching from the sidelines, Shelvey is hoping he caught the eye as the Reds first team gear up for a busy run of games that includes the Carling Cup final against Cardiff at Wembley.

"It was good to get out there and have a run out. It was a good performance and the scoreline showed that, even though it was a weakened Norwich side," the 19-year-old told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It was good to be out there and get a game because I haven't played much recently, so it was good to show the boss what I can do."
