I haven't been to a local gig in Hull for a while, anybody/anything out there in Hull worth taking note of?
I'm not really up on many of the bands these days, but Fruit on Humber Street puts a lot of local music on. Last thing I saw was a few months back, Sesh at Linnet. A couple of good bands actually, who regretfully I cannot remember the names of. A band called End Of Level Baddie from Hull have been getting played on Radio 1 lately, must be on the up, though I've not heard them. Another band I hear about is Backflips & Bodyshots, though again, can't tell you about them myself as I've not heard them. I'll take a wild stab in the dark at them being balls to wall rock. I should stop being ignorant and see some.
The Hubbards aren't bad.. Then there's the Go-Go Kings... Like Party Hull, I haven't been to enough gigs to tell you what's hot or not at the moment. This site tells you what's going on at the moment. http://www.hullbands.com/index.html Oh and a kid I work with plays bass in a band called The Walls. They are pretty good and gigging a lot in Hull and the rest of Yorkshire. Might as well use this opportunity for a plug. This is them... Nothing to do with Hull, but I recently came across this mob from Manchester, I think they're excellent...
I saw the walls as a support act for all the young at fruit a few months back and they were indeed impressive
Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent new bands? Hull or otherwise? I'm bored of what I've got on my ipod but I haven't heard anything new that's excited me much recently. Might be looking in the wrong places.
I'm 27. I can only really say that I like stuff that sounds...different. Doesn't matter genre, but if it's genuinely original sounding then it usually gets my interest. Edgy & quirky please.
I'll be ****ed if I know then Especially not a 'new band'. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour? You're difficult to cater for!
Storm the banquet There pretty different quite folk like with rocky undertones although not sure there on the go anymore. Little Switzerland worth a look The scene was stronger 5 years ago than it is now IMO
The last band I saw was when I was on my way back from a night out in town, probably 3am.. we randomly bumped into them, headed to their van after their performance (I didn't actually see them perform) and after half an hour or so they ended up offering me some speed along with heroin. Not my cup of tea
I rate Warpaint. Guess they have been making waves for a couple of years now, but i'm surprised that a lot of people still don't know who they are. Could probably count on the fingers of one hand good all female bands, but they are one of them. Plus they have added bangability.
Last couple of bands/artists that have got me really excited over the last couple of years for being different and interesting are; Hudson Mohawke Little Dragon Virtually nobody else I know likes them. Back to Radio 1 at 4am it is!
I really like Warpaint, good shout. I also am a massive fan of girl rock! Pretty Girls Make Graves, for example, I love.
Braids? The Mae Shi? Them and Explosions In The Sky are about as 'different' as it gets for me, and they're hardly obscure.
