Newcastle are surprising many this season but I know its just one season.

Sunderland under O'Neill are top of the form table and have yet to see MON spend any money, that said it is very early days.

    However

Could the NE be ready to become the new Manchester or London with both clubs fighting at the top rather than looking at the bottom, or, will money and location always hold us back.

Don't know about the long term future but I think this is going to be the first time since I started watching football that two north east teams have finished in the top half of the top division. Good to see.

Perfect world has us beating you 5-1 in the final of the champions league in 15 months time. For a Sunderland fan would that really be so bad?

I think it's always going to come down to money at the end of the day really. Alot will depend on how UEFA implement the FFP. If they are quite strict, and punishments are severe, then teams like us will hugely benefit.

It will also be about establishing yourself as a top 5-8 club, instead of being one season wonders. This sends a message to the good players you've already got i.e Sessegnon for you, Ba,Cabaye etc for us that we are ambitious clubs and want to be top half and better every year. it will make them want to stay, and will attract players from other clubs to join us, and push forward.

The big issue is can we keep our top players from the likes of City, United, Chelsea etc.. for long enough till we actually establish ourselves consistently as top clubs again. That may be hard to do.

When home grown young talent fly the coop so early that is the worry. I remember Venison going. With Henderson and carroll going are things really that different? Still I do see this as both clubs best chance to establish themselves in the top half. We both look like we can finish ahead of Villa and Everton. Both top 6? Perhaps Newcastle. Let's face it top 8 would be amazing and let's hope it's not a flash in the pan.

Maybe not the new Manchester or London but perhaps the new Merseyside?

Don't we currently have the highest level of unemployment in the region?

Think so. Just as well our football clubs are doing so well. Long may it continue. Our derby is finally a European placed battle.

Personally I like to see Sunderland get beat every week, same as many Sunderland fans like to see Newcastle lose every week, but I would far rather see both at the top than battling relegation on the last day of the season in the 08/09 (regardless of who goes down). So every thing is good with football right now.

The fact you said that Sunderland are top of the form table without spending any money sort of makes it clear that it is probably just momentum coming form MON coming to the club, it will be his transfers that define hime, becuase he has always needed money to bring sucess.
I personally would love to see Sunderland fighting relagation every season but now go down so we can emabaress them every season, the fact that we are newcastle and you are sunderland will always mean we will be the bigger club though, because we have that name which will draw bigger names.

It does, we always win, doesn't help the friendly attitude that we all have.

Always ends up with stupid school style arguments. Everyone has their opinion which they are entitled too.

Could be, can see Sunderland improving and think Newcastle's squad may improve especially if we qualify for Europe (By that I mean either).
