shocked at some of the comments, always thought that Liverpool and Newcastle were the most similar in terms of fan base, tradition etc etc. so have found myself naturally liking Newcastle as a club and the fans in general

Not to the younger generation of Newcastle supporters. But if you speak to the older generation they've always got on due to tradition, fan base, shipyards, players representing both etc. Not to mention the 4-3's etc from the KK era. Not sure what happened but there are loads of anti Liverpool threads on our board daily. Some are probably tongue in cheek though

Chatting to a few other non toon fans and Seems Liverpool are quite universally unpopular at the mo thanks to Suarez and dalglish and their continued stubbornness ....

I'm a newcastle fan who lives in Liverpool so have quite alot to say on this. A few points.

1 - Anyone saying they don't like the city of liverpool or the people here i can only assume haven't been. They've very similar in terms of personality and sense of humour to Newcastle, i really like the place and i'll be here for years to come i reckon.

2 - I'm not a huge fan of Liverpool FC though can't put my finger on why. I'd also say that the Liverpool fans i know tend to be unrealistic about what they expect and many assume their opinion on football outweighs other peoples just because they support Liverpool. You don't tend to get that from Everton fans. That is however a sweeping generalisation, just based on 10-20 people i know personally.

3 - Why hate Dalglish? He was on a hiding to nothing when he came to Newcastle, bought Speed, Solano, Given, Hamman and Ketsbaia!! We beat Barca and yes we struggled in the league but we only really had one striker and he was injured all season! I think he was unlucky for us the only particular thing i disliked was the way he handled the Stevenage affair - we had been alot of peoples second team and it went down the pan fast.

Alot of baseless comments on the boards here though. I hate Villa fans because of how they were when we went down, only them though.

I think Liverpool are just like Newcastle, great club, great history (ok, Liverpool a lot more successful over the years) I certainly do not hate them, in fact, they are my 2nd team, Gerrard is such a superb player, I think the mistake was getting rid of Rafa - had he been given the transfer budget that Dalglish was given, they would win the premiership in my honest opinion.

Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia, Fernando Torres, fantastic signings! I actually believe Torres would never have left if Benitez had stayed, and would be playing just as good as he was a few seasons back.

Anyway, best of luck to Liverpool, hopefully we will finish 3rd and they can finish 4th :)

I think so much of the bad feeling against Liverpool, ignoring recent incidents with Suarez and Gerrard is the media bias towards them. There's still the expectation that Liverpool are preparing for a title push every season and it annoys fans of clubs who have done as well (or better than) Liverpool in recent years.

I'd say that Liverpool and Spurs have swapped positions in terms of expectations and quality, but a lot of pundits refuse to acknowlege it.

You only feel that way because we are 9 points ahead of Sunderland, however if they finish ahead of us on goal difference they will rise from their ****houses and rub your face in it.

Benitez was one of the most incompetent managers EVER to grace the premier league. I believe the team they had should have done better, but his terrible blindness that meant he thought only Spanish players existed stopped them going further.

Oh and the comment about pundits earlier was correct. Lawrenson has us 24 points behind Liverpool in his prediction league :D

Stupid action by Suarez today that will definitely turn a lot of neutrals against the Dippers, especially when Dogleash comes out and defends him later. Cue another bout of Merseyside self pitying 'we never do anytin' wrong, la' hysteria about how hard done by they are, and that everyone should excuse anything they do because they're Liverpool. As a general rule their fans are a loathsome bunch. You can't shut the whingeing gets up, they love wallowing in self-pity when they feel they're victims, but keep very quiet when they're clearly in the wrong - no-ones ever allowed to forget Hillsbrough (quite right, it was a terrible tradgedy), but then so was Heysel and the indiscriminate murder of Juventus fans, but hey, that was a long time ago, no need to mention that, eh?

A very naughty boy? I know he refused to shake hands (as did Rio) but what has happened to make him a bad lad? Can't watch game.

End of first half booted the ball into the crowd from quite close. Bit of a bust up in the tunnels after apparently.

No big deal there, entirely personal choice as it was for Rio and Bridge plus many others. Some are never gonna be best friends and we don't need to treat them like children. But booting the ball at the crowd is naughty.
