    From a-far.

Sunderland AFC is set to welcome Ghanaian partner club Asante Kotoko FC's head coach Maxwell Konadu to its Academy of Light training headquarters this week.

The GLO Premier League is on an extended break during the African Cup of Nations and the former Ghanaian International forward, who took charge of Asante Kotoko in 2011, will spend two weeks with Sunderland's coaching staff, observing training methods and gaining practical experience.

As the biggest football club in Ghana, Asante Kotoko has an astounding eight million followers. They committed to a formal partnership with Sunderland AFC in the summer of 2011.

A delegation from the Ghanaian club recently visited Sunderland, meeting senior club officials and touring SAFC Foundation's facilities and outreach centres, with the aim of ustilising ideas and expertise to implement community schemes in Ghana.

SAFC Chief Executive Margaret Byrne said: "We are delighted that our partnership with Asante Kotoko is progressing so positively.
"Having met with the chairman Dr Sarpong and club officials on a number of occasions, we have been bowled over by their warmth, infectious enthusiasm and more importantly their in-depth knowledge and experience of African football.

"All of this can only be beneficial to us as we look to expand Sunderland into international territories."

Gerrin'. The better their academy becomes, the more chance we have of picking up some good young players from them. I like the way they've picked up on the SAFC Foundation, too - in some areas of Africa, that could do an immense amount of good.

I like this partnership. Big John's no longer with us, Sully Muntari didn't work out - if Gyan decides he'd rather stay with Al-Ain, where would that leave our support base in Africa? Benin would probably be the only country on that continent that retained an interest in us (unless Elmo picks up). This tie-in with Asante makes us an established name in Africa, no matter what. Welcome.

Lets hope all those fledgelings dont use Asamoah as a role model then eh? (and have some real good advice about agents)... Nice to see you consider the possibility "he`d rather stay with Al-Ain"....best place for him..... What a base we have for international development done Messrs Quinn & Miliband too....

Quite clearly all Sunderland supporters will have these issues in the very forefront of their minds today....I mean there`s nowt much else happening this week:laugh:

    1) I just hope one or two are as good as him.
    2) Whilst I think he's probably enjoying getting rich out there (who wouldn't - except you, or course?) i don't think there's even a possibility that he wants to spend the rest of his career in the UAE league. He needs to be in the Prem. But we don't know the terms of the Al-Ain loan deal. So Asante is a nice piece of insurance.

Now come on Cutey just stop worrying about all these things and just lets look forward to the games this week...Its gonna be great!!!! I promise not to call you Cutey anymore as well its too much like that "Darling" joke in Blackadder....CB?.......... I would enjoy being rich!!!! what makes you think I wouldnt?? ....Do we know each other?
If I said I`d known some Cuties in my time that would be outrageous....Anyway getting back to Asamoah for me he can do what he wants....Im sure hed get the same reception as Darren Bent if he came back........especially if he did his little dance I could be wrong and he could be welcomed back and become a Sunderland legend. Then you can expose me as a dick who hadnt a clue what he was talking about....All the best CB...Dyavvy

Dear Dy, if you said you'd known some Cuties in your time, it would be very, very surprising to me.

You seem to be fixated on this Gyan thing - the article - and my reply - was about our links with Asante. We can agree on one thing though, Dy. Gyan might very well get the same reception as Darren Bent if he came back. I could see that. But the bottom line is, Bent's playing for England and Gyan's in the semi-finals of the ACN. They should care.

"Then you can expose me as a dick who hadnt a clue what he was talking about" - Ha! You don't need my help there...All the best Dy ... Cuteybuns

Is that you Dy? Well, I'm glad you showed us that. Makes sense of some of the stuff you've posted above. Well, footballers were never known as the brightest, were they?
