Since Nick Barmby has taken over, there seems to have been a settled team for most games with very few injuries, has this got something to do with NB backroom teams training methods?

I've often wondered that. There are clubs who always seem to be ravaged by injuries. You do wonder if it's the way they are made to train

how many knee injuries have sunderland playeers had when steve bruce was in charge ? Turner as an example has had more injuries whilst there under Bruce than he ever did at City.

Arsenal seem to have a big problem with injuries... always thought it must be the way they train.. or how hard they train...

I think it's got more to do with a complete lack of depth meaning small knocks are being ignored as there's nobody else to play where normally we'd rest them. It also helps perception with Olofinjana, Stewart, and Garcia all coming back from long term injury at the same time.

Since Barmby took over though we've had:

    Basso on and off
    Gulacsi
Rosenior had an ankle injury ahead of Crawley
    Koren getting his dead leg.
    Brady with his concussion.

I know the last 3 are contact injuries, and Brady in particular is irrelevent of training, but there's also a case of a lot of players being tired and on the point of breaking down. Dudgeon had to be dropped because he couldn't handle the physical side of training and playing every game, McKenna and Evans needing to be rested now, McLean looked very tired just before Xmas. Would Koren's dead leg have been as serious if the squad had been less tired at the time? (ie able to recover more quickly)

Mentioned on radio this am that evry player in Man Utd squad (with exception of Park) has had an injury this year. If they had a smaller squad would they have played throgh these? Probably not as they have been despearte for players in certain positions

It depends what the injury is. If it's an injury that prevents them playing then no. Where it's a minor knock if an 80% Rosenior is considered better than a 100% East then Rosenior would be asked to play through it and we might never know the iinjury had been there to start with. With better back up an 80% Rosenior wouldn't be the better option so he'd be rested and we'd know about the injury.

Looking for specific examples that we know of, Basso played through the injury because he was the only keeper available. QPR had a similar situation with their keepers, Cerny played a run of games with an injury because they didn't think their fully fit understudy was good enough to replace him. Similar considerations will have gone on at Man U.

Odd isnt it when you look back at early 70's when Citys first xi (and other clubs) rarely changed, or is that my mind playing tricks?

Some players seem to be permanently injured even when they aren't injured though. Look at Gerrard, he's been back from his dodgy groin for 2 or 3 months now but there are still doubts over his fitness, and Hargreaves got over his massive injury at the end of last season, but I've literally not seen him play once for Man City this season, what has happened to him? :s

I know they didn't include him in the CL squad for the first half of the season. Did they leave him out of the PL one as well so that someone else could play while he was slowly building up match fitness in the reserves?

True and i dont remember players being tired like they are now despite playing on heavier pitches they just enjoyed playing and realised how lucky they were to be in that profession.

In the 60's and 70's they didn't play anywhere near the tempo the games played at these days..

In the 60's and/or 70's they just pumped players with Cortisone so that they couldn't feel their injuries

He's in their Premier League squad, but he certainly hasn't had much of a look in, only one Premier League, one FA Cup and two Carling Cup appearances so far.

He should have signed for someone who have room for him. Man City have more holding midfielders than we have missed chances!

I think Mcfc have admitted that they thought they could build up Hargreaves strength and fitness and bring back the player he was. But this has backfired a bit and just hasn't happened. His fitness problems are still ongoing.
