No quality will tell over the course of the season and Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool have all gone through a large scale transition this season. They'll start to click at some stage and have a bit too much for the likes of Newcastle and Sunderland who are the chasing pack. I could see one of those 3 teams slipping up and never really get going but not all 3.

Think that was wrote by Sunderland fan, gave us a little bit of praise with the first point then spent the whole time talking about how its just Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Quite funny because last time I looked we were 9 points ahead of them and in front of both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Stopped reason after it compared Bentdner to Suarez/Van Persie...

Aye that tickled me. Fair enough Sessegnon looks quality, Campbell is a threat, and Wickham looks one for the future, but Bendtner is ****e and their strike options are a world away from the top teams.

If the article was "Could Sunderland finish 5th next season ?" it would raise an interesting question.

The answer would still be "Probably not" (it is pretty hard, after all) but Sunderland have a good team and a good manager. They could well be in the sort of position next season that we are in this season.

As it is, they are starting far too far back. The competition for 4th is very intense. If we go on a wobble and they keep their foot on the gas, they could catch us. I don't think they will but it is certainly within the realms of possibility. To get 4th place, however, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool would have to wobble with us. That is not going to happen

I don't think either of us will finish top 4 but on current form you would have to say we could both slug it out for the tag of best of the rest.

Sunderland are on a good run and have some good players,Sess.Larsson, would have liked him at SJP and two promising youngster's in Campbell and Colback

Can they break in the top 4 no way, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have to much quality. Fourth spot will between those three.

That Sunderland needs to take a reality check! Yes they are on a good run but, Top Four!! They will finish 8th at best. A long way behind us. But looking forward to the derby. There are going to some tackles flying in for sure. I think there will be a red card for certain. If we wind up Cattermole he will go...

I don't honestly think they'll achieve much more than they have this season - the summer signings they make will be interesting.

I'm wondering just how much backing MON will get financially. Not much i'm hoping!

They are a good, solid team and have a great manager. Think they will finish 8th this season, which is a good position - definetly considering the form they were in under Pat.

Next season, they will push for top 6 imo.

Think people in the media and some fanzines are getting a bit ahead of themselves.

Sunlan to finish in the top 4 not likley this season, think the article is written with the red and white tinted specs firmly on.

It's in reaching distance for NUFC at the moment and would say out of the 2 NE clubs we are in the driving seat to push for it.
BUT it would be a miracle if we did get it as the two manchester clubs are as good as there, Spurs are looking good for 3rd.
Chelsea don't look as strong as they used to be but are still getting results, liverpool again not convinced with them but feel both clubs have a little bit more than both NUFC and SAFC.

The coming weeks should clear this up, both NE clubs have top 4 teams to play.

I'm of the beleif that NUFC will finish the season strongly as we have big players, Cabaye, Tiote and to some extent Marveux to come back into the team.

A brief summing up of the article.

    - Sunderland will need to catch up to Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea
    - Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are struggling
    - ???
    - 4th spot is between Newcastle and Sunderland?

Is the article not saying that it is merely a possibility?

Its tone just seems to be exaggerating Sunderlands/Arsenals/Liverpools form and not intending to be taken literally.

Both Newcastle and Sunderland have had impressive seasons, Newcastle for a stunning run of form (which can no longer be described as 'good form'), and Sunderland for seemingly again making progress (despite suffering from a seeming terminal case of mismanagement).

Yeah to be fair, I think it was more a lighthearted musing than a statement.

Good times for the North East and next season I'm excited for both Newcastle and Sunderland to be competing for a Top6 finish and Boro possibly coming up for a relegation scrap.
