We've probably seen an awful lot more of Gutierrez than the mags have of McClean (Obvuiously as he's been playing int he PL a lot longer) - from what I've seen of both of them I'd take McClean any day - Gutierrez this season hasn't real been too much threat going forward as he's been defending - McClean has also had to defend and has done that superbly well and also managed to get a couple of goals and assists as well and has always looked dangerous - has only played a dozen games though and Newcastle sold Andy Carroll for £35m after about the same (in the PL) and look what happened to him!!

If he keeps it up McClean is going to be a very good player - fingers crossed!!

Very different types of winger. I like McClean but I'd still take Jonas at this stage as he is completely proven at this level. McClean has had an outstanding run since O'Neill came in but it is very early days and he has yet to suffer his first dip in form or anything like that.

I think we have hit on the Touretz (spelling) association here.

I'd have to say McClean on the past few weeks evidence. He's a raw talent at the minute and has a bit of pace about him, so fullbacks are yet to figure him out. If he's still doing the same to RB's in a year's time I'd be very surprised if he was still playing for Sunderland, with all due respect.

Gutierrez is a decent player though, even though he turn into Jackie Chan every time he plays against us. His good friend Messi rates him very highly from what I read. I think if he could add 4-5 more goals per season to his game he'd be top notch, but his tracking back and defensive work makes up for that in a way.

I think when Newcastle have their regular CM's back and start controlling games in midfield again, Gutierrez will start to up his game as it should allow him to attack more.

He was defensive earlier in the year, though that was when Ryan Taylor was playing left back, could defo do with adding at least 4-5 goals a season, think his average is about 2 a year.

The thing that's eaasy to overlook about Guittierez is just what a pain in the ass he makes of himself for the other side. He keeps the ball, he runs with the ball, he fights for the ball, he gets tripped while doing all of the above. He makes the other teams midfield look disjointed.

If he could add a few decent crosses and goals to all of the above, he would be one of the best wingers in the Prem, and way too good for us. He is, in all respects, not pretty. He is bloody useful.

And McLean looks like a prospect from what I've see nof him

Gutierrez is one of the most underrated players in the NUFC side.

for a winger, he helps the defense so much, works so hard, never stops running - which is great for our attacking-minded leftbacks (was Enrique, now Santon)

but the big thing he does is get the ball from defensive positions, runs it along the line, taking his time allowing the rest of the team to reposition and get themselves sorted.- he holds the ball up more than even a target-man striker - then often wins a free kick.

we look a much better team with him in, he's much more defensive minded than most wingers (he plays rightback for Argentina!) so juding him on goals & assists is a bit of a fallacy really.

as for McClean, i havent seen enough of him to make a real opinion, but he certainly looks a good little attacking player.

I think in terms of pedigree jonas has shown over the years that he is the better all rounder when comparing to mclean at this stage of his career. Jonas is very underated IMO but thats saying something when he's still and argentina regular when you consider what they have at their disposal.

Mclean looks like a big stupid dog with boundless energy and he's very enthusiastic if you catch my drift. hes extremely direct and is like a steam roller at the minute. he has that intensity. If that was taken from his game or if he takes his foot off the pedal if and when he feels hes made the breakhrough proper then he might fall away. But at the minute he looks very exciting and he's giving people fits. Time will tell how far he he can go. on current form i'd take him but i'd rather have Jonas for the long game as once the defensive shackles come off a bit more when our midfield is back we'll see a lot more intent from him.

To be honest, I think Shane Ferguson could have a McClean type effect if he got a run in the team.

I think the thing with McLean is that he is bang in form and he's all about pace, power and delivering a good cross while tackling back and countering with what I mentioned above, guttierez is really comfortable with getting the ball and playing it around a defender with his skill, pace and strength also defbeding better than most defenders then havin the ability to hold a ball and getting out of situations where you end up thinking how the hell has he done that!! Goals are both a plus with the two players that are playing in there positions, if I had to have one right now..... Probably guttierez, he's a proven premier league player with more experience and has played at the biggest stage in football at a world cup, and am a toon fan!! I really like McLean and hope he does really well apart from when he plays us!! Also why was this lad in the reserves??

Be interesting to see McClean if Robertson come in to mentor him.

I certainly rate Gutierrez as one of the Mags top performers. However, McClean is for me the nearest player we have had to Dennis Tueart since, erm, Dennis Tueart, and he was one of my all time favourite SAFC players.

As I've mentioned before like, Jonas is such a good player. His work rate is arguably better than anyone's in the league. He wins us a lot of free kicks - fair do's he does go down easily, but does get fouled most of the time, if not all! He runs past players with ease. Just a pure fans favourite and class act.

Maclean's still only young, but he works his arse off and makes things happen. Time will tell how good he really is, but he's certainly a prospect. Trouble is, if he makes the Irish Euro squad we'll have the big boys sniffing around soon.

Tough one really, both have their pros and cons, Jonas' hard work in defense and going forward whereas McClean has that bit of flair about him that Jonas doesn't. I'd take Jonas though, not because I'm being biased or anything, but for our team, Jonas is what we need down the left. A defensive winger that will run all day long, creates space for the team and win fouls in dangerous positions. McClean is a great prospect, no question about it, but he isn't suited to us.
