It's a freaking robbery! Thought about going to the Brizzle game next weekend. Checked train tickets....around 50-60 quid, one freaking way! It's freaking cheaper to fly to Sweden with the low budget airlines. The option is to buy single tickets between Stoke-Manc-Hull-Manc-Stoke with bus, or something like that. Anyone going to the game from Manchester or nearby surroundings? And should I go to Blackpool or Cardiff away? Please come back to me asap if you're going to the game and have two seats available (Im trying to convert my Scandinavian colleagues, one by one)
It's much cheaper on the coach (National Express) if you can plan your journeys that way you can save a fortune
Just rechecked the tickets for you febbos, it's 59.20 return. Looks like a lift might be the best option as I also checked National Express and thats 50 odd quid.
A lift is best and the train is only a little more expensive than the Nat Ex (which has ridiculous journey times) but our ticketing system can confuse people I'm afraid if you don't know how it works, either get a lift or book in advance as that is the way to get the cheapest train fares
Yep, costs me £22.30 each time I come down for a weekend. (2x£11.15 advance tickets) I think Febbos problem is where he's coming from though. East Coast it's a piece of piss to get the cheap tickets and they're who I travel with as they cover the Edinburgh to York/Doncaster part of my journey. Coming from Febbos area it's Virgin or Cross Country he'd be on and they're a ****ing nightmare to get cheap tickets with even when you book in advance. I know a few years back I was doing York on a Friday night, Hull for a lunchtime kickoff, Manchester night on Saturday, and then a game at West Brom on the Sunday. I booked it all at the same time, the Dunfermline to Hull bit was about £10, the WBA to Dunfermline was over £50 just because it was different firms. I've just had a quick look, there may be cheaper ways of doing it if you buy far enough in advance (or if you looked harder than I have), but for next weekend you can walk into the station on Saturday and get these prices: Stoke to Manchester - Off peak (it's the weekend so can be used any time) day return = £10 Manchester to Hull - Off peak day return = £39 That's got it down to £49 return. Like people say, get a Young Person's railcard from the station (take a passport photo and proof of age with you), that'll bring it down to about £30-35. It'll cost more than you save on this trip, but by the time it runs out in a year you'll have made the cash back easily.
You could hire a car Saturday morning and drop it back Monday morning for £50(it's just over a 2 hour drive).
good plan OLM, but........................................................... what about the pre- and post match beers????
Yeah I know what you mean about train prices, from Reading to Hull can easily be £100 return. Sometimes you can save money by buying separate tickets - for example Reading to Sheffield might be £40, but Reading to Birmingham £12 and Birmingham to Sheffield £10. Pain in the ass and means you have to swap seats halfway through a journey despite often being on the same train but it can save money. National Rail or Young Persons railcard also good for saving money, as I think suggested above.
It's not really the weather for hitching and I don't think maybe people stop nowadays, the last time I picked someone up must have been over ten years ago and even then, it was because I was pissed.
lorry drivers who want some company are always the best for lifts nowadays. have to agree on car drivers though, sad, but a sign of the times.
I travel in from the Manchester area (north Bolton). If you want a lift it can be arranged. I do set off quite early and get to hull for around 2pm. Then take a nice walk to the chippy (you cant beat a chippy in Hull). Try to get out of the carpark (hospital as sat in the East stand) asap and have you back for around 7.15pm if this is any good?
Stoke on Trent to Hull is £59.20 RETURN. Which is pretty decent because its about £50quid return to just Manchester from Hull usually!
