I think I am currently sat above that 'bar' standard too, and I am not even American. I heard Darke has been doing a good job for your ESPN, even though he is still actually in the UK for the games he covers. That said, unless he gets a new job, hasn't FOX gained the rights to most of the football in the next few seasons? Also related, I believe you tried to sign Martin Tyler first, but being number 1 at Sky, he was never going to leave.

Good luck with your commentary future though :)

I'm answering points put to me directly. Maybe you should mind your own business if you don't like it.

Darke's been great. He's a very enthusiastic type, and us Yanks love a play-by-play guy that really gets into it. He, as it turned out, was a much better choice than Martin Tyler, who I like just fine, but an American audience wouldn't really take to him.

Not sure about EPL coverage and such, but FOX won the broadcast rights to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Which is bad, because their soccer coverage is abysmal. Too American, with dancing robots and crap like that.

I appreciate the good wishes. Really looking forward to the fall, when the high school/college soccer season starts up again. I do commentary for a ton of different sports on a regional cable station, and since nobody else really likes calling soccer anyway, hopefully I'll be able to make a name for myself that way. :)

I don't want to argue with you or anyone else either. It's just a discussion with people having opposite views. Surely we're all capable of dealing with that without getting emotional.

As I understand it, FOX have mopped up the Premier League rights from ESPN too. And have an inkling they have got the UEFA Champions League too. From somebody I know from your side of the Atlantic, they think most of ESPNs personnel may transfer across.

I agree about Darke. I liked his Donovan goal call at the World Cup in the final group stage and it's probably what got him the job with ESPN. I am also glad we kept Martin Tyler across here who proving time and time again to be the master of Football Commentary (even again today on Chelsea vs Manchester United). Shame Andy Gray was fired at this end, he could pop up at your end if Fox choose to present their coverage from the stadiums at this end, although that could prove costly and make a studio presentation easier.

If nobody else really wants to call the 'soccer' at your end and it continues onto gain more attention across there, that can both only be a great thing for you. You never know, FOX may come calling for you when the rights of these competitions transfers across.

Glad to see it's not just Hornets watching the Game tonight.

Really enjoying the Brady-Fletcher commentary, even if it is a little out of synch. Game nicely poised for the final quarter. Brady sacked... there is hope!

ESPN losing Premier League rights can only be bad for the sport here. What ESPN shows and decides to promote is what becomes popular. I don't think it's any coincidence that, since ESPN really ramped up their soccer coverage in the build-up to the last World Cup, there have been more and more fans of the sport here than ever before. SportsCenter (ESPN's flagship highlights show) shows league and international highlights and promotes the hell out of their soccer coverage. But if there's eventually nothing to promote, they won't talk about it anymore, and nobody's going to care. The NHL is a great example of this; nobody's given a damn about ice hockey here since ESPN stopped shopping their games five years ago.

The ESPN guys bolting for Fox, though, would be great. What they'll need more than anything is a good, soccer-centric studio host. For awhile it's been former US forward Eric Wynalda. He's like watching Gary Lineker do Match of the Day, except Eric sucks at it and also is a giant douche.

We had Tyler doing Chelsea - Man U live this morning on Fox. Dignified as always.

Agreed. Should be a great fourth quarter. Not been a bad game at all up to this point.

You remind me, I was rummaging thru my closet today and found my old Watford Jay Demerit shirt. When Vancouver comes and plays my Columbus Crew, I'll have to see if I can get him to sign it!

For the benefit of the American Football fans.

If you don't already know there's an American Football Forum on here as well:

    http://www.not606.com/forumdisplay.php/143-American-Football

Not trying to boot this off here, just for those watching the game there'll be more people to talk about it with. I could make this a cross board thread as well, but there's already a Superbowl thread on there so you'd be as well just joining that.

Thanks Ricardo. Didn't want to plug my own thread but agree that pooling the two sets of contributors makes sense.

If it's something like this feel free to plug away on other forums. Where there's already a thread about it I can't see anyone having a problem with it. There's no point several forums having a couple of people each talking about it if you can all be together on one forum having a better talk. It'd be like us having 2 seperate match threads when we come down to Vicarage Road.

Not at all. Their fans often seem to be watching a different game to everyone else so seperate match threads makes sense.

What a climax to the game.

Quality not great, too many mistakes, but two evenly matched sides. Very brave call by the Pats coach to give away the touchdown at the end.

Well saw the last 5 minutes and all I could think is how many time do you want to not catch the ball every time there was a decent throw the catchers were shocking
