Sorry if something similar has been posted before, but I just think its laughable how all those players that left have withered away.

Habib Beye - Went to Aston Villa, never played and recently realised. Going to bottom of the table Doncaster
Obafemi Martins - Went to Wolfsburg and didnt do very well, then went to Rubin Kazan and didnt do very well. Has played just 31 league games since he left.
Sebastien Bassong - Went to Spurs and did okay, but faded away. Now at relegation fighting Wolves.
Damian Duff - Probably done the best of the bunch. Playing at Fulham.
Michael Owen - injured. At Man U doing nothing.
David Edgar - Went to Burnley and never plays.

Nice to see they're all doing well now. Wonder how many of them wish they had stayed.

although i expect with hindsight many wish they had stayed, there was no way we could afford to keep them, a couple probably had little say and given the choice would have stayed.

It'd be interesting to see what type of contracts they were demanding these days compared to what we were paying them!

Duff is old and average and is in a dull Fulham side.

Bassong would be the only one id take back, to act as cover.

No wonder we got relegated they are all woeful, owen is good but made of glass. Then you also have alan smith and nicky butt in that team, we were realy ****. How times have changed.

Thank **** for that!!!!!!!!

God when I think back to that side it's really weird. At the time I genuinely thought we actually had a decent side, and were too good to go down, but looking at them now you think to yourself we really were ****.

What makes it more sickening is thinking about how much money they were all on. Geremi and Butt were probably earning 20-30k more than Cabaye is now. And then you get to Owen's 120k a week, the icing on the cake! It was all about the money for those guys, team spirit and playing for the fans meant **** to them. Such a difference to the players currently pulling on the black and white jersey

Still think we're much better now than we were then, financially and on the pitch. But we were on a team sheet too good to go down.

It was the draft of managerial changes that ****ed us, and the players not caring (which is affiliated to the manager). They had the ability, most of them, but were ****ed about by changes and tactics.

When I saw Villa's team sheet today I thought we'd be in for a very hard match and although it wasn't a piece of piss they could've easily gave us a decent game with a better manager than McLeish in charge.

Pains me to say, but look at Sunderland since they got rid of Bruce?

Sometimes it is completely the managers fault. Liverpool are another example right now.

The sad thing about many of those players was that they were all pretty exciting signings for NUFC when we brought them in.

They had good reputations and had done good things – Duff, Owen, Viduka, Martins etc all being players with proven pedigree.

Some of them you'd have to say though simply never really wanted to play for us and seemingly only signed for the cash or the fact that other more attractive clubs didn't want them.
Consequently, when the going got tough they did not care less and it was a collection of players who were more inclined to turn against each other than pull together.

However, that group could have been enough to stay up IF the club hadn't been so mismanaged. Keegan would have kept them up certainly.

But this is history now and frankly relegation and immediate promotion has been the best thing to happen to NUFC in years.
We wouldn't be where we find ourselves today without it, although how quick the turnaround has been is staggering...

Don't hold grudges against many of them, its a natural process when you go down. Duff always disappointed while here, never seemed to enjoy his time or put the effort in. Martins and Bassong behaved terribly just before they left, so I don't wish them well.

Got nothing against Edgar, never really got much a look in while here and just wasn't good enough. Beye needed to move for his career and I wish him well as he went about it the right way. No histrionics or not trying like Bassong/Martins. Owen is just a scapegoat for me. Just a bad buy by Souness/Shepherd. Tried for us but we didn't put the team around him and bought a crock. Best for all when he moved on and wasn't gonna ever be gracing the fizzy pop. Plus Man U? No brainer. Fans expected him to all of a sudden become a different player, chasing down lost causes etc. That isn't what we bought. We bought a natural goalscorer who has others do his work while he finishes the moves off.
