With Sturridge's contract at Manchester City expired, he signed for Chelsea on a four-year contract on 3 July 2009.[16] As Sturridge is under the age of 24,[17] and the two sides were unable to agree a deal, the fee for Sturridge was decided by a tribunal. The Professional Football Compensation Committee decided on 14 January 2010, that Chelsea would pay an initial fee of £3.5 million with additional payments of £500,000 after each of 10, 20, 30 and 40 first-team competitive appearances. There will also be a further payment of £1 million if the player makes a full international appearance, and Manchester City will receive 15 percent of any sell-on fee if Sturridge is transferred.[18]

As soon as Fergie goes Man Utd will be a team on the wane. Liverpool, the new owners are unsure about Dalglish and so will not pump any more cash into the team, Chelsea are undergoing a restructuring that may take years. Arsenal, until that russian guy can take over they will be forever a top 6 side and no more. Man city are going to going to be the team to beat in the next few years because of the bottomless wallet they seem to have, but their Achilles Heel is their manager. We have an oppurtunity here to push on and become a CL team again. And from then on who knows what may happen.

    this!!!!

starting line up is good enough for top 6 every season. Just need a couple of young backup players to step in when required for injuries, bans etc. I for one wouldnt be disapointed if we kept ba, colo, cabaye etc and didnt sign anyone of "star" quality in the summer.

    Either you've very young or you're forgetting http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/newcastle-win-intertoto-cup-428645.html <whistle><whistle>

But in seriousness there's no reason why, if we keep this sort of team and success with incoming transfers, that we couldn't win one of the cup competitions in the next few years, be it the Europa, the FA cup or even the league cup. However we will need to improve our performances against 'lower class' opposition like Brighton.

Oh and pgakev, welcome to the board! Don't pay too much attention to MrTiote, he makes Radiohead sound upbeat

Bring in another CB, Striker and Right-Back.
    Then blood the youth.

    Champions League.

If we were to suffer a major loss in the summer I'd rather is be Tiote for about 20 million or more as he is replaceable only as long as we have mr. Carr.

The new financial rules mean and relatively youthful team means we are perfectly placed now.

It will be harder for the big boys and easier for us.

Mike Ashley has gone from a moron to a lucky genious.

I think one striker and one defender.

I think the midfield is fine, even perch looks decent now, ferguson cant even get a game and the lad is class, we are strong enough.

Every player has his price, it happens Carroll's was valued at twice as much as it should have been.

If we're in and around top 5/6 I don't see why players would imidately jump ship at the first offer when they're already part of an exciting young team!

We're on the up, here's hoping that the lads really go for it from now until may <ok>
