Anyone know when the original Trog Bar actually closed? I loved that place, the way war broke out and everyone took a step to the left and carried on talking was ****ing brilliant, nothing was ever a step too far in there. And it was a great advert for papier mache.
Ye when it kicked off glasses used to fly about and they were those thick dimpled glasses with a handle on. Seem to remember Lola blasting out whenever i went in there. After there it was either Bali Hai or Romeos.
Thursday nights in the Trogg Bar with my mates from Syd Smith, that takes me back. Horrible sticky red floor, no decent beer and we had to buy cans of some american filth. Great atmosphere though and the first place to get a tank battle arcade game. I couldn't put an accurate year on it but about 1979 it turned into the Bat Cave (more paper mache walls!) and then I lost track of what became of it.
I used to go there a lot when I was in Hull area, good to hear it is still going and the food is still OK. Will make a point of visiting there when I am next down.
I left Hull in 1973. They used to have some good bands on but the beer was watered down and it wasn't easy to get served so we used to buy crates of beer and went into the bar and through the toilets. Eventually they used to have bouncers stationed in the toilets.
Old Town! Near Tunnel there is SoHo Lounge, walk further up to Trinity Sq and there is Lizard Lounge (which is over 21s only, as is...) Oscar's on Silver St, which is also next to the walkway to get to Ye Olde White Harte. Walter's and Manchester Arms on Scale Lane both good, Ye Olde Black Boy and Sailmakers Arms on High St, then there is William Wilberforce on corner of Trinity House Lane, as well as Bonny Boat and Duice Bar. Courts Bar is down the Land of Green Ginger, Barracuda and Tallulah's are on Lowgate along with Revolution (quite an 18-30 yr old crowd in Revs), Jaz Bar and then round the corner from Three John Scotts is Bar Exchange - all these mentioned, bar (excuse the pun) Revolution tends to be a good mixture of ages... George St tends to be under 40s only, mainly.
Just spotted this write-up on Hull clubs, I'd forgotten some of them(and never heard of others)... http://www.paul-gibson.com/history/discos-nightclubs.php
Few memories there. Lot i dont remember either. Forgot Ocean 11. He used to open a hatch to look at you before letting you in. I used to be a member of Odyssey, is that a Hillman Avenger on the picture? Forgot about Jack too, opposite Tower. If you thought Tower was rough jesus Jack was really scraping the barrel.
This makes me feel very old I remember most of these places. Mustafa will recall his time at the,, Parlour in little Queen st, and his time at the Lantern . and he never looks any older since he first arrived here. Still one of the nicest people you could wish to meet.
I didn't know Mustaffa was at all those places, it's not a complete surprise though, the Lantern was almost exactly the same as Mustaffa's(and still is) and the Parlour used to be great.
