Last season was always going to be a struggle anyway, whether we had Phil Brown, Pearson or Sir Alex the money problems would still be there, key players would still leave and we had a squad used to losing. In other words, there was little to be optomistic about for the forthcoming season regardless of who was in charge. It's no coincidence that our results and form improved drastically once Pearson got rid of the dead wood, got his own players in and the Allams deal got sorted out. The point about making us perennial mid table is ridiculous, we're challenging for the top 6 now and only just missed out last year. The point seems to be made just out of spite of Pearson, there is little evidence to support your claim at all. If we'd been in 12th-18th all season and last fair enough but we haven't, I don't particularly like NP since he left but will still acknowledge what he did do and what he has left us with.
In fairness most fans know he did a good job putting us back together, it's always the silliest that shout loudest like TWF. He has no chance of coming back due to the manner of his exit but the guy gave us a good squad and last year we had the best away run in our history.
You do a good rant! I wouldn't say I was an apologist as such for Pearson as he played the media wrong, and didn't leave in the right manner, but in terms of rebuilding and results, he made us solid. He'd never be welcome back because of the way he left and probably some fans ill-feeling (such as yourself), but some of the players we have now are outstanding and in terms of acquisitions to the squad he is one of the best managers we have ever had, we are going to make a fortune off some of these players like Cam and Chester.
If he ever did come back there is no doubt in my eyes he would do a good job, and if given time he will do well with Leicester City. However there is little to no chance that we will ever see him back at the KC and i don't think thats a bad thing. He did a very good job for us whilst he was here and helped us recover from the awful position we was in as a club. Yet since he has left the air of optimism around the club and the enjoyment i have got from watching us under Nick Barmby is far more than when he was ever at the club. So thanks NP, but lets move on.
Did Nigel really do a job in finding our new players,or were we just fortunate that Warren Joyce kept pointing young Man u starlets in our direction ? Or the likes of Rosie actually ringing the club to ask for a trial. We can all see that we are playing far better football under Barmby yes. Well why were'nt we playing like this under Pearson ? We have the same he had. In reply to the op,I'd rather eat my own **** than have that areshole back !
Well he arrested the nosedive we were on out of the Premier League. Got shut of a load of dead wood with no interest in City apart from the pay cheque, most notably Bullard. Initially made us difficult to beat with limited resources. Gradually made us difficult to beat playing some decent football. Through his contacts at other clubs, brought in some real gems, that in the longer term will probably generate sizeable transfer fees. Responsible for THAT incredible unbeaten run. Dealt with the shoddy local press and radio in the manner they deserved. But sadly for me the man of principle that I thought he was, showed he clearly wasn't in the way of his departure. Couldn't get out of the place quick enough. But he's not alone in this, it happens all the time in football, there is no / very little integrity left nowadays. Have him back? To have our noses rubbed in it a 2nd time? No thanks.
I'm not sure how much of the "clearing out of the dead wood" he did, it was probably a Pearson, just not the one with the lousy media presence. As for sourcing players, again I'm not so sure. Makes it a bit easy when your'e given the phone number of the reserve team manager of the biggest club in the country and told he will supply you with a stream of young talent that will be available.
NO, simply because we now have NB who's heart is in the club instead of a mercenary. I say give NB plenty of time to learn and progress.
The nosedive was a myth invented to make it look like Pearson was doing a good job when he was ****ing up horribly. We were never going to go down to League 1. That describes Pearson himself. Anyway, he's hardly signed a team of lifelong City fans has he? You're just reeling off a bollocks football cliche that's irrelevant in the modern game. Yeah I remember Millwall struggling to stick 4 past us. The only thing difficult about Pearson's football was watching it. It only seemed "decent" in comparison to the shower of ****e he served up in his first season. Mediocre at best. "His contacts" were already there before he came and are still here now he's gone. I don't think they had much to do with him. You say "THAT" like it was worth something. When it was couple with THAT home form it's completely meaningless. Being a **** and then crying that the fans didn't support him. Worked a treat didn't it? Leaving was the best thing he did for us and you turned it into a negative. Unbelievable.
I am not a Pearson Apologist just a realist. Pearson is like all the rest of the mercenaries in football,no respect for their club, rip up contracts as and when they feel like it and forever chasing money all of which makes him and the likes of him detestable. Lets get something right about him though he did get rid of a lot of dead wood and the team is in a better state now than when he arrived. It would be interesting to know if Nick Barmby would have taken over the team if it had been in as bad a state when Pearson took over. Maybe we have to thank Pearson for Nick taking over the management
Thats a good point Andaluz about Pearson being a mercenary, this is why he went down in my estimation, and the manner in which he left. The way he came over to the media was a sticking point for a lot of fans too, for me he treated Burns, Swan and the Fail crew with the contempt with which they deserved, but unfortunately fans like to hear managers talk to the media even if they are the dregs of the local fourth estate.
Who honestly believes Nigel got rid of the dead wood and signed our new talent ? Im certain it was the other Pearson that deserves the credit for this !
If you think Adam talent spotted Chester, Hobbs, Koren and Stewart then you're wrong, frankly. if you said Steve Walsh deserved the credit you might have a point.
