Interesting to note watching MoTD last night how many empty seats there were at the Emirates, the Etihad and even the Brittania yesterday and yet they all had near full, capacity attendances.
Some teams give attendances based on the number of tickets sold rather than the number of people in the ground so that it looks fuller when people look at the figures. If you had say 10,000 season ticket holders, and 1,000 didn't turn up but 1,000 paid on the day, there'd be 10,000 in the ground, but they'd report it as 11,000. The weather this weekend would expose those kind of practices. Not that it's relevent for this, but when it comes to European games the advertising boards always used to be bigger than the ones used in the PL. The result was that at places like Old Trafford the first few rows right around the ground would either become restricted view or be removed from sale, so at Old Trafford a capacity crowd was lower than it was for a League game.
I dunno, I think it gives the players the impression we'd rather be at home than cheering on the team. I'd rather sit in the cold given the choice. We did sing it before though, way before MCFC did.
