To be honest It's an amazing job - I currently work at an HMPS YOI so I deal with the youngsters. Mainly those that are seriously disturbed, like sex offenders, murderers etc etc. I design and run behavioral programme groups, and also write up psychological reports for parole dates. Amongst other things like giving the odd lecture here and there, and I also write for the journal 'forensic update' - particularly focusing on bullying within the prison service and how it's swept under the carpet.

For the years it took to become 'chartered' it's not the best paid job, although it's not bad. At the end of the day I'd rather do something I enjoy and earn slightly less than doing something I hate.

I'm one of the lucky ones that actually looks forward to going to work <yikes>

Anyway - good luck with your studies mate, hope it works out for you <ok>

Which one though? Bath Spa (the shoddy one!) or the University of Bath (top 5 uni for psychology anyway!)

It's an amazing city - very small but very friendly. I often take the Mrs there for the week-end as it always brings back fond memories of drinking games and orgies <laugh>

I remember one night getting absolutely steaming drunk in the underground nightclub (forget its name) and racing my ex up Bathwick Hill. I woke up very sore the next morning (and not in the good way)!!!

    John 'anal' Wayne? <yikes>

Most of the clubs in Bath are underground - bit weird but pretty ****ing cool.

<yikes><yikes>! Yes Bath is very similar to York. You should come visit us. Lovely city if you like Bath (just without underground bars)

Yeah I've heard York's a lovely place - never been myself, but would definitely like to visit at some point <ok>

I'm living right on the south coast at the moment, near Bournemouth. Mainly due to work and the Mrs and kids are now settled here. Nice place though (not Bournemouth, the village I live in) my house is an 1 minute walk from a isolated beach cove. Amazing in the summer <ok>

I went to uni because I'm southern and it meant I could have 3 years of my life in Newcastle with a season ticket <party> . Now I am a bum.

Used to go to Bournemouth a lot when I was at uni. I went to Southampton (not the dunce one :p). Nice beach there. I miss the South coast a bit

South coast is amazing in the summer, but in the winter is so bleak and depressing.

Summer though it's buzzing down here - I'm closer to Weymouth than Bournemouth, kind of in the middle. The main issue with living here is going to home games, it's a proper mission so I only make about 3 or 4 a season (and I used to be a season ticket holder years ago <wah>). Although, I go to most away games in the south - including all the London games.

I went to university for 3 years doing Media (which was basically film making), I ended up getting a First, it may seem weird but it seemed easy to get and it was the best time of my life, but I never seriously wanted to do Media as a job. I went for the lifestyle.

When you go to University a lot of it is about growing up, becoming independent and having the best time of your life. Without University I would never have travelled Southern Africa for 3 months or America for a month by myself. It simply was the best time of my life.

For people who say that they should have spent the money on travelling the world; would you have had that money? I don't have a very good job now but I am saving up to go travelling again and then hopefully go into the army.

As in terms of the fee's, unless you get a really high paid job, which would probably have come from your degree anyway, you more than likely won't even pay off your debt.

I went to Manchester to do Geology. In terms of career progression, for me the 3 years at Uni was a waste of time, although it may stand me in good stead later when going for promotions. However I had a great time, and I don't regret any of it. Also met my Mrs so all is well.

Join the army now, then you aren't in a dead end job and you are travelling without cost. I have a lot of respect for people in the forces.
I don't understand how you chose to do a media course at university and then not want a job in the field. You could have chosen something accredited instead.
People like you don't realise that university is mean't for getting that final step in education to kick start a professional career in an industry you love.

I didn't mean to pick on you personally, but your points wound me up the most.
