The way our season has gone,it is almost unbelievable that a few weeks ago,we were looking over our shoulder at a few teams who were below us,and just hoping that they would drop more points than us to keep us above them! Now that we have a top-quality manager with a positive mental-attitude in charge of us,we are looking up the table and not down. When I worked in sales, for over 30 years,I was always told to aim high. That is what our team seem to be doing now, and, surely, our target has got to be Newcastle Utd.Not because they are our local rivals, but because they are nine points in front of us,are in a potential European spot, and that if we beat them in the derby game, the gap may only be six points.Aim to finish above Newcastle again, and the sky is the limit!

Would love that to be poss and, like you say not just cos its Newcastle. Unfortunately due to our poor start I fear this may be aiming a little high. will be happy for the lads to prove me wrong tho.

Quite frightening to think what the possibilities are for next year.

When the craaas were on here craaaing when things looked bad for us down at the bottom.
My worry was survival.
When MON came in I instantly backed us to finish above the skunks.
They were again lucky the other day, Blackburn was pummelling them.
Their luck has to run out soon and the points deficit is certainly attainable in the remainder of the season.

Trouble is, the bastards keep winning as well. Lol

I think its time we actually gave them and Pardew in particular, some credit for the season they are having. They are genuine top 4 contenders This season and had Mon had the full season too, it doesn't take a genius to work out so would we.

Having both NE clubs going for top places is a real novelty in my lifetime and an exciting period for the region.

Both clubs are aiming high and both are achieving. The derby could be a classic.

Bloody hell MON has mellowed you.:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Sod giving them credit, they have been so lucky it's unbelievable.
With a proper manager in charge now I can't see us rolling over and playing dead in the derbies now either. :p

MARTIN O’NEILL has rubbished talk of Sunderland’s dramatic revival under him propelling them into Europe.

The impressive 3-0 win over Norwich means only Manchester United have picked up more points than the Black Cats since O’Neill’s appointment two months ago.

A run of six league wins out of nine has catapulted Sunderland into eighth place in the table having been in the relegation zone when he first took charge.

But the ever-cautious Northern Irishman dismisses his side’s European prospects, insisting he’s far more worried about a slump in form which could suck Sunderland back into trouble.

Asked if the Black Cats can catch up with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and neighbours Newcastle to earn a Europa League place, he said: “It’s nonsense. Foolhardy.

“Imagine talking about that on the first day of February?

“Seriously, don’t get carried away. We have some points on the board, are playing with really great confidence and there’s a bit of desire which I think has been there anyway but that’s it.”

Sunderland’s record in league and Cup under O’Neill is seven wins, two draws and two defeats – and those were narrow 1-0 losses at high-flying Tottenham and Chelsea.

But with a tough fixture list ahead of them, starting at Stoke tomorrow, the manager is under no illusions about the task ahead.

“It’s just my normal defence mechanism but the Norwich win was so vital because had they beaten us, we’d have gone to Stoke, which is a really difficult game, then Arsenal come here,” he added.

“Suddenly, you lose a game or two and don’t know where the next point is coming from. I’ve been there before.

“Of course, I’m very pleased that we’re eighth but it’s so congested, you can quickly slip down to 13th or something like that so I’m more concerned about points on board and reaching 30 is a bit of a landmar

I think Everton will finish above you guys.

They have a far better squad in my opinion, and they have experience and bottle at this end of the season.

Regardless of how well you think your manager is doing, your fixture list is much harder than Everton's. That's simply undeniable.

They only have 1 fixture left this season where pretty much everybody would expect them to be beaten and that's at Old Trafford, without wanting to sound arrogant.
