Now with Danny Drinkwater, Wes Morgan and Ben Marshall signed and Nathan Delfouneso here on loan for the short term what do you think our strongest team will be. Say everyone is fit and available. There is 5 centre halfs which will split decisions. Who plays in the middle King, Wellens, Drinkwater or Danns. Does Gallagher keep a place on the wing or does Dyer and Marshall get the shirts Here is mine Schmeichel Peltier Mills Bamba Konchesky Marshall Wellens Drinkwater Gallagher Beckford Nugent Subs Weale, St. Ledger, Danns, Dyer, Delfouneso When Delfouneso goes i would put Waghorn in there
I would have Danns over Wellens better box to box player. And Dyer for Gallagher.I also expect Morgan to be at least on the bench knowing NP?
Danns if for wellens without doubt, St Ledger in for Bamba, without doubt, and the cleaning lady in for Gallagher, or traffic cone without doubt(cos we dont really have another right sided wide player) but apart from that its looks ok
Schmeichel Peltier Mills Bamba Koncheskey Marshall Drinkwater King Dyer Nugent Beckford Weale, Morgan, SSL, Wellens, Danns, Schlupp
AKCJ, yep not a bad line up, the only one of those id change is Danns for King, but only cos King has been awful for ages this season, the rest are spot on, Wellens and Gallagher should def not be in the team for me, and if were gonna seriously challange then we cant afford to carry them, and we would def be doing that in Gallaghers case, and Wellens is just past his sell by date. Personally i would have liked another mid coming in during the transfer window, so that it would have hopefully spelt the end for those two, but its all personal preference i guess, but i just dont rate those two at all. Think i would still put in St Ledger for Bamba too if im honest, think sol takes too many risks and will from time to time get caught out, and at my age i cant afford too many heart scares during 90 mins football lol
It doesnt look to bad...but i too would give SSL the nod because since the transfer list debacle is has been giving 110% and his performances have matched it!
Schlupp is injured at the moment. Point is that when King's playing as well as we know he can he's the best goalscoring midfielder in the league.
This is an interesting one - not least because the srongest XI individuals might not be the best 'team' So I'm going to do 2 - first the XI I'd personally love to see if all our squad was fit ... Schmeichel Peltier SSL Bamba Koncheskey Marshall Wellens Danns Dyer Schlupp Beckford Now the XI that I'd like to see tonight based on availability and form - (or lack of for the omissions) Schmeichel Peltier Mills SSL Koncheskey Marshall Wellens Danns Dyer Nugent Beckford
Not sure any of our new signings should walk into the team yet, the only one I can see is Delfouneso for Beckford if he starts showing a lack of effort again. Isn't Morgan injured anyway? Probably the only one I'd like to see is Drinkwater for Wellens, and Marshall as an impact sub- he's an unknown entity in this league at the moment, which is unusual for us
Rationale is this: Mills can't pass - therefore Bamba as the ball winner for his greater pace and athletism Drinkwater - needs to grasp the opportunity as soon as he gets it - but haven't seen enough of him yet to judge whether he is a playmaker or the grafter in central mid - and I think Danns has been superb in his last 3 games bringing much needed energy whereas Wellens can certainly pick a pass although I sometimes question his fitness etc Nugent is a tough one - he works really hard and I appreciate that but he has never been prolific and I would like to have two free scoring forwards - which I feel Schlupp and Beckford both have the potential to be given the right service Delfonouso - like what I've seen of him for Villa - but should he get a starting berth- and, if so, fo who?
Think it is a bit harsh saying Mills cant pass, as he has set up 3 goals in the last 4 games. His cross field passes have improved considerably - it's just his long straight balls he has problems with - but who wouldnt with long straight balls ?
The strongest line up is the one that has won the last three without conceding. Anyone else will have to wait for their chance.
Can't deny he has done that and all credit to him for getting in the right psoitions - although his pass to Beckford may have been more luck than judgement - but I am very happy with his presence in the air in both boxes - but if he tries to pass out from the back any more than ten yards, normally the best I hope for is that it will find an open space to give us a 50:50 chance to retrieve it .. invariably it seems to find an opposition player with plenty of time and space to control it!
But how many time has he tried to pick that goal scoring pass and its just gone straight to the opponents defenders or midfielders, meaning we need to work to get the ball back again ...
