How do we feel we have done?

Bit disappointed we didn't sign or at least loan a CB, but on the otherside really please none of the big players have left.
Once Tiote is back mopping up in front of the defence I'll not be as bothered about not getting a CB.
Plus we've gained what has the potential to be a really good strike partner with Ba.

Plus we have managed to at least get Smithy out for the rest of the season.

All in all can't complain to much.

Not bad, if we'd have gotten in even a backup CB (even Kghyhgvyhyragos on loan) i would have said it was an excellent window.

Well hopefully we can push on and finish in a decent position which will hopefully sway some of the big players to stay or sign new contracts.

Would of defo took Bassong on loan but am pleased for once simply because we kept all our players and gained an excellent striker. Now we can focus on getting colo a new contract !

Agree with what you say. Colo and Guthrie need new contracts asap.

It was good, considering signing Cisse, but disappointed we didn't sign a CB, we are screwed if Colo or Williamson get injured.

CB is a funny one - we know colo and saylor are 1 & 2 when fit , willo 3 and perch 4 as it stands
it looks to me that anyone playing alongside colo raises their game (or colo covers them)
the prob we have is when colo isn't fit, willo and perch as a pair aren't good enough

as a squad CB coming into the club would they look at the fact saylor would be back next season and think i,ll just be a bench warmer or even behind willo?
if we had signed eg samba as a 1st team CB people on here would say "oh thats it colo is off at end of season"

i am happy we bid for any player and aren,t held to ransom for the sake of it , i didnt see enough of mariappa to comment on him

Well Watford aren't particularly flush with cash, so suspect they saw us as desperate for a CB and thought they could squeeze some more out of us after reading their managers comments after our first bid.
Mariapa has come through their youth system and has 18 months left on his contract, so has cost them nowt really and probably worth about £2 million. For them to quote £4 million is a joke and suspect they used Wigan to try and bump the price up, since Mariapa knocked them back.

So screw them, don't think we'll be back in for him in the summer so reckon his big chance has gone. Pards will have his targets alreeady.

Wants Tiote is back in front of the defence I'll not be as concered by any possible CB injuries as he can protect them and ease the pressure.

Although I wanted Mariapa in for cover in the long run its probably for the best. He would be nothing but a sub (or not even that when Saylor gets back from injury). Far better to spend a extra 1-2 million on a player (e.g Douglas) who would have a realistic chance of fighting for a first team place and in the long run be the eventual replacement for Coloccini when he is deemed too old.

In my view this window was a huge success in relation to how bad it could have been! Who would have thought we would fork out in the region of £10m for a new No.9 without losing anyone to make up the numbers?

This season has been going so well, I feared we would lose 1 or 2 big players to bring us all back to earth. It hasn't happened though <party> which is a successful window in my eyes!

This. Are any of the 'we'll see in January' crowd a bit more relaxed now? Yes a backup centre half would be nice (and I'd still like a first choice left back) but we've reinforced a team in 7th, with nothing going out. Roll on Demba coming back, and pray for no injuries to Coloccini, but otherwise I'm delighted.

Yes I am extremely happy considering we sold no one of any worth. We kept all our big players and added a quality striker.

At the end of the day, we've got the team that got us to where we are plus the addition of Cisse.

    I'm happy enough with that.

As a transfer window; I think it's been a great success.

We've retained the core of the squad in terms of Krul, Colo, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Ba.

We've added to our strike force and massively improved it with Cisse. This should force Shola further down the pecking order and also lead the way to the end of 'hoofball'.

Sure a CB wold have been very useful but I'm not overly convinced that the chap from Watford was the right player. In 6 months time; would he be surplus to requirements when Colo and Taylor are back together?

Also, would his presence in the squad reduce out chances of getting a better quality player in the summer?

We are still in a good position.

I think its been a brilliant transfer window for us as our best players have stayed and we've signed a proven goalscorer. A centre back would've been good but we should have enough cover. Perch is an average CB but is okay for first choice considering Colo is rarely injured and Willo is an able deputy for Tayls when crocked. We have more or less 2 players for every position now which should mean we can cover any injuries/suspensions for the rest of the season.

    Krul/Harper

    Simpson/Raylor Saylor/Willo Colo/Perch Santon/Fergie
    Obertan/Ben Arfa Cabaye/Guthrie Tiote/Abeid Jonas/Sammy
    Ba/Vuckic Cisse/Best

We also have a few other decent youngsters and Gosling who I don't particularly rate but can do a job if we're struggling for numbers. There's also Shola for the derby <ok>

The comment above about Summer is right; Mariappa was seen as a useful stop gap, maybe even seen as a competent 5th choice, because I would strongly suspect that someone of calibre will be available for free this summer. Douglas, Pieters, Mbiwa and Vertonghen are all out of contract, I think, plus the countless others Carr will be looking at.

It's a shame we couldn't pick someone up, but Jan is expensive. The only thing I fear is that there's a MASSIVE reliance on Colo to not get injured/suspended and in football things like this have a nasty habit of biting you in the ass.
