I can sympathise with teachers like that Davide Duck. Think I spoke about it on the message of hate thread but an English teacher I had for for Year 8 and GCSE thought a civilian was someone who worked for the government (depsite the protests of the whole class), and whilst teaching WW1 poetry did a powerpoint presentation on the Nazis. She was the type of teacher that sent me to sit in a seat then came up to me 30 minutes later and asked why I was sitting there, when I 'argued back' I got sent out.

I think the only thing she taught me was that teachers aren't always right. Kind of made me question a lot of what I'd been taught (not just in school) after that.

Yeah I'm sure I've mentioned on here before the Geography teacher I had who pronounced Chile like 'Child' without the D.

You get some quality teachers though. I had one R.E. teacher who just messed about on youtube for half the lesson and did Velociraptor impressions running across the tables. <laugh>

For some unlucky reason, I use to mostly get shouted at by the cock-eyed ones so I couldn't work out who they were actually shouting at for about a minute afterwards...

If there's on thing you have to learn quickly as a teacher is that you aren't always right. Trying to bullshit your way out of a position by abusing your position of authority is out of order and lying will always be found out. Students quickly lose respect for teachers like that.

I don't claim to know everything about linguistics and literature, and I'm always happy to learn more. If a student ever asks me a question which I am not fully confident on I'll be honest, I won't lie. What I'll do is set the student the task of quickly researching it for the next session and I'll do the same. We'll then discuss what we found an hey presto, everyone has new knowledge!

That's the best way to live life in general, regardless of what you do.

Quite true. Where do you work? Never felt the temptation to follow your family into being a teacher/lecturer?

Co-run a graphic design business. As for following my family, as a kid I never put much thought into what I'd work as and weirdly it always felt as though I would follow them. When I finished college it was the first time that I realised that you could literally be anything, sort of felt as though i was always destined to be in education as a student and then in the staff. That was a nice freedom to feel, and I severely doubt I'll go into teaching because I've experienced the personal life side of it my whole childhood and really want to experience new things.
