when we were on our good run i was thinking that we would be able to hold our own next season should we get promoted but after a few below par performances against average teams in division 2 i am beginning to think that waddock has a big job on his hands if we are gonna survive in league one.the left hand side of our midfield is one area that needs strengthening and with westy and ainsworth near retirement age we will need some quality replacements.
Betsy could still do it next year as long as he is played on the RIGHT. His performance last night greatly improved with the switch following the substitution of Ainsworth. McCoy is blossoming and could be well capable of League One with more experience and may even be an option for the wing. Strevens I feel is not doing enough to warrant a place in the side and I was astonished at his selection ahead of Rendell.
Itll be a sad day when we loose Ainsworth to retirement and hopefully after promotion some players will be bought in as we would not get a chance against some teams the way we have this year. As for McCoy, he is a great player and as you said, could be an option for the wing.
I think if we had a quality left footed midfielder/winger promotion would be a shoeing as for league 1 its a priority as is cover across the back 4
I'm wondering what exactly has happened with Westlake. I know he hasn't had the best Wycombe career so far but he is naturally left footed and would balance things out.
Was injured but I guess GW doesn't rate him and he may be left footed but he's a ten a penny central midfielder had his chance with us in league 1
I always thought that westlake often played on the central left side of a midfield two. In terms of league one i think if we made it and thats still a big if we will need at least 6 new players. 2 wingers, 2 full backs, an attacking midfielder (which could be donnelly if he was given a run in the team) and a bully type forward. The last i think is necessary purely because we have the guile with rendell and beavon the pace with pitman but no one will go up top and bully defenders and i think if we had that then we would score a lot more as the hold up play by the forwards i dont think has been that great.
Two players to think about would be Scott Davies and Omar Daley. Think both could do a very decent job and Izale McLeod could be worth a punt as well.
scott davies tries too many uneccesary long range worldy passes for me which end up with us losing possesion so i would say no on that one and reading comments on the bradford site over the last few months they are not too impressed with omar daley, whether thats because he has gone stale and wants a move i dont know but he has undoubted talent so i am 50 50 on that one.we definately need a left midfielder that has a left foot and has pace because we are too lopsided in that position and kevin betsy has done a good job for us there but as we have seen of late he is much better and more comfortable on the right.i dont think ainsworth will play many games in a higher division if we go up and strevens is not a left winger and not much better as a striker so i think he would be one that would be shipped out.westwood has been immense for us this season but this will probably his last season and bennett well he has to go.mccoy has done well since breaking into the side and looks to have a good future with us ,foster has done well as cover for sandell but we will need another left back as back up.
On the subject of Daley, I can understand how he has become frustrated at Bradford with Taylor as manager. I feel that playing for Waddock, who employs a more attacking approach would really suit his style of play. Anthony Grant could also do a good job for us.
i cant comment on grant because i havent seen him play but from reading reports on reserve games he sounds like a good prospect.agree with the taylor point though he is not exactly a manager that promotes attacking football
on the few occasions i have seen daley he looks like someone that waddock would like in his team lightening pace and trickery to go with it but maybe his wages would be a stumbling block
Thought you would have seen Grant play. He was on loan to us a few seasons back and played during the Carling Cup run. Couldn't play against Chelsea due to them being his parent club. Currently plays for Southend.
appologies i was getting him mixed up with our young reserve centre half anthony stewart i think his name is,must be my age.of course i remember grant he was pretty solid for us when we had him
Armchairboy on your point as to who would be the 6 to make way: Strevens Westlake Green Bennett Murtagh And i imagine one or two of the young guys such as fitchett who haven't had the chance i know but its likely he won't keep all the young players coming thru. Plus i did say that donnelly could fulfil the role of the attacking midfielder given the chance to actually play. Not sure about daley he's not long been back from that bad knee injury and has he returned as good as before? Plus his wages would be a stumbling block. Grant i don't think would be a good idea either he's too similar in style to what we already have. Davies i agree completely with rocky he always tries those long diagonal balls that generally end up with us losing possession.
