Bravo Arsenal - leading the way with the right football, the right way of running a club, and the right policy on transfers. I wish the media would wake up to the fact that Arsenal way should be lauded and all clubs should be looking to manage their organisations in the same way. Personally i would rather we carried on running our club this way than win things
I'm not asking for that. Drastic, reckless spending would be disastrous for the club. However, a couple of signings to augment the talent we already have would not bankrupt us, no?
I assure you, reality has very little to do with your position. You are disapointed with the lack of trophies so you no longer support the club. I understand that, but continuing to dream up fantasies that, somehow, we have vast sums of cash available to be on an even footing in a transfer war with Man City, or that with a new manger some magical tactical solution will be found to make us unbeatable, is the real failure to accept reality. But I could take that, really. What I have the problem with, is that the negativity that you inspire and promote, has a detrimental effect on the team. It errodes the confidence of the players, makes them want to play for Arsenal less and may cause the manager to leave. The very manager that keeps us competitive against the odds. That is what I cannot take, and why I dont think you should call yourself an Arsenal supporter.
Oh Gawd All along I was thinking it was the fault of our tiresome CEO or perhaps that Arsene had seen his best days or that we have players we bought badly and whose wages are a drain on our club's finances or even that we have problems with our defensive strategy or that we are over-reliant on our captain and talisman when all along I'm the one responsible for the state our team is in!!! I think I need to take the honourable way out Serious Toledo, you give me too much credit
I really think that is what we do. I think everyone sees a player here or there that has moved, where we think, hmmmm I wonder why we didn't sign him. But, equally or even moreso, there are players that we look at and we go, thank the lord we didn't sign him like they did. We seem to be talking about realism here and a realistic view is that really, we get more than our fair share of good signings in our price range. Time after time we see players that people were screaming for, making errors even worse than our team does. I saw Enrique was the last dead cert good signing making a mistake.
Seriously Robin, I give you no credit at all. You are the ugly side of our age, where opinion and mob rule is considered superior to expertise. Singly your opinion is worthless, but as soon as you get 10,000 idiots together somehow they consider themselves smarter, whereas in reality if anything they get even more idiotic. There is no logical reason for taking exception to what our CEO said, except you own self-aggrandisement.
You need to look up the word support in the dictionary. There seems to be a mix-up between supporter and critic around here.
Toledo, do you think there's ANYTHING wrong at the club right now, or is everything just fine and peachy?
You realise that other clubs make money or do good buisness too? I know City don't but in all fairness Man U make profits that get spent on bringing their debt down just like Arsenal. But they also win trophies. There seems to be this myth that Arsenal are such a well run club because they sell players every year to bring down their debts.
Most of our debt was not paid of by selling our players, , we had an effective overall plan, one of the key areas being selling the block of flats we built at Highbury which went very well, as well as paying off the debt by increased revenue made at the Emirates which has also gone very well. So no, our debt pay off isn't reliant on selling players.
Tsk Tsk Toledo Let's not get personal now, shall we? I'm sorry if my remarks have upset you since they clearly have, but you see, those who claim to manage our club upset me.
Too right Devlin. We should have adopted Utd's policy of investing for success. Success on on the pitch and on paper.
LOOOOL OMG - I can't believe the utter rubbish I am seeing on this thread. Like I have said lots of times, the In Arsene We Trust gang CANNOT argue, all they do is take an extreme and use that as ammunition £500m I told you a million times not to exaggerate And as Devlin so superbly reminds us, clearly it is only Arsenal are the only club that is properly run. clearly you have to be spending more than you earn to be able to challenge the big spenders. So in that case: Boavista didn't win the Primera Liga in Portugal in 00/01, challenging the might of Benfica, Porto and Sporting. AZ Alkmaar didn't win the Eredivisie in Holland in 08/09, challenging the might of Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV ? FC Twente didn't win the Eredivisie in Holland in 09/10, challenging the might of Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV ? Then you had little Lille winning Ligue 1 in France last year and Bordeaux in 2008 and Nantes in 2000 !! If we hop over to Germany you have Wolfsburg winning the Bundesliga in 2008. All of these are stories of clubs with a fraction of the spending power of bigger clubs winning leagues and all very recent too. Hell, We proved you could do it in 2004 ourselves. So the argument that we can't win because clubs spend more money than us or that we can't win because we are a well run club is utter rubbish. We can't win because the manager buys pap players.
PISKIE - how so ? If I say we should spend money the IAWT gang say we don't have any to spend - but we spend £13m on OXO. If I say we should buy decent players the IAWT gang say we can't afford £40m on one player. If I say we should be challenging for trophies the IAWT gang say no we can't because Citeh etc spend more. If I say we don't buy good players the IAWT gang say Jenkinson is a good player. If I say Gazidis is a tool the IAWT gang say he is doing fantastically well for Arsenal. Your arguments are based on hyperbole and blatant denial, nothing more ... nothing less.
Piskie it is for sentiments like these that you should really consider what it is you as a mod should be doing. Hurling missiles at those who hold a different opinion of you and then taking the high ground is not part of the remit of a mod. It is for such considerations that last week I placed you on ignore and there you will remain. Thought I would advise you in case you may wonder why it is that I do not respond to your posts. I won't be opening them anymore.
Again, I could accuse the In whinging we Trust brigade of the same thing.... (1) Oxo has proven to be a good buy at £13m - the finished article would have cost at least double and demanded triple the wages. (2) I don't think we could (or even should) buy a player for £40m (3) We are challenging for trophies - did it escape your attention that we're in the knockout phase of the CL and progressing in the FA cup? (4) Jenkinson is a good player - and a £1m he was another bargain, also remember he is back up to Sagna. (5) Calling Gazidis a tool is a bit childish in my opinion. As a CEO promoting and developing our club, he's doing a pretty good job. So you see, you're using the same extremes that you accuse others of doing. Don't expected it not to be countered with an alternative opinion
