He wants to be number one and hopes he has done enough to convince Bruce to keep in in the team. I think it is great to hear him come out and say it, is he ready to be number 1, not sure, certainly hard to argue against after the Arsenal game. The reason I'm pleased to hear him say it is because it shows confidence and honesty, it also gives Gordon the kick he may need and can only be good for the team. Can we keep them both, not sure but should be good watching them fight it out for the rest of the season.
Can we keep them both ? that is the big question . IMO no , one is a top class keeper the other is going to be a top class keeper . Someone will come sniffing around sooner or later and one of them will be gone . I predict Gordon will be gone in the summer . to where I dont know but I have a feeling Liverpool may be in for him and Reina of to Manu .
I've made no secret that I prefer Mignolet, here is the reasons. Both are very good shot stoppers, to close to call there. For all Mignolet is so young I think most would agree he commands his area much better than Gordon. However the main differance is in the distribution. Gordon clears the ball far to aften directly to the opposition, which puts the presure straight back on our defence. In last weeks game at Arsenal Mignolet gave away possesion on only 3 occations, which is why we were not under constant presure. Compare this with Gordons recall game away to Spurs. In the 1st half he gave the ball directly to a Spurs player on 19 occations (19 times in 47 mins). This is why Elmo is so much better on the wing when Mignolet is playing, as he finds his head time after time. A lot of fans dont notice these things, but I always watch the keepers more closely as it was my possition. ps I was know good I knew what do do but didn't have the skill to do it lol
I fear that Gordon will be away in the summer and I would have full confidence in Mignolet as our No 1.
For me , it has to be the Mig. Dont get me wrong, i like Gordon also, but the Mig just seems more confident. Hes young and is only going to get better and better. The Migs shot stopping is class, his distrubution is v. good and i reckon he has better positional sence at set plays. Gordon will go in the summer i reckon, but i doubt we will get half of what phsyco keano paid for him.
get gordon fit and get as much as we can for him, mignolet will have gained a lot of confidence and experience after this season, if only we could have a settled back 4
At the moment, he's doing better than Gordon. In the long run, I don't know which one would be better for the club, and I really hope neither of them go - when one's injured, we hardly lose anything due to a superb backup.
I think he has some potential!!! Young and cocky, as we Americans say, and if he thinks he's ready to be No. 1, then maybe he's packing a little more punch, than what he's already been putting out.... all those excellent saves against Arsenal, certainly got my attention, and who knows.... if he believes he's got what it takes to become No. 1, he just might make it!!! As for self-confidence....you can't fault a man for having some.
So many positive comments on behalf of our #2 GK. It's brilliant to have two top class keeepers. I cannot recall a time when I would have been happy to see either one line out for a game. Like some have said, maybe we will not be able to hang onto both of them come the summer. Given (no pun intended) a choice, I would throw my hat into the Ming Ring and go with youth to match SB's team building style.
Not sure he's ready, but I'd stick him in for the rest of the season with Gordon's injury. Gordon does not require surgery on his knee, so will likely be on the bench for the foreseeable... http://www.rokerreport.com/2011/3/10/2041540/craig-gordon-doesnt-require-surgery
Gordon will sign a new contract and i am not keen on Mignolet as our number 1 when we have Gordon. Mignolet needs to work on his command of the area as he cant collect crosses and against the bigger more physical teams it shows
Are you saying that Gordon has demonstrated how good he is at crosses and against physical teams in his matches this term?
