Now do not get my wrong; I am very much against racism and I feel use of it in the game should not be tolerated (just mentioning this before the entire Manchester wumming brigade jump at me like a bunch of angry honey badgers). I'm also aware that I am about to say the absolute obvious. Looking back at the Suarez incident The way the press addressed the whole racism "did he / didn't he" was apauling. Even if the player was found guilty the press seemed to milk it for all it's worth. The matter was in my mind inconclusive and the decision to be made was to be made by the FA alone. The press in my eyes should of stayed out the way until the verdict was made and then try to report on the matter in a non-self-opinionated way! Instead they focused on trying to make the whole club look bad, instead of the one individual who was found guilty.. Supporting Suarez Now this was risky; However commendable. It is the Liverpool way to back a player in hard times "You'll never walk alone" after-all. We also needed to protect one of our prized assets as a club. Like it or not Suarez is a very important player to us, and we needed to restore some comfort in the dressing room. HOWEVER the press in this country being the bastards that were must of decided they personally did not like the fact that we started standing up for our own player because he was found guilty. So they all jumped on the anti racist band wagon. So they decided to begrudge Liverpool FC and reported on the incident with references from other managers, in a sort of "He says / she says" childhood rumour style to try and make our club look foolish. Even obscure players like: Jason Roberts??? (Who does he play for now) somehow had there opinion posted; I mean no disrespect but I do not see Jason Roberts being an expert in this particular field, do you? In my mind Jason and all those involved had no business actually making there opinion public in this particular manner. The issue is between Liverpool FC's board and the FA. Any other public remark I see as just plain unprofessional. The press now http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16798167.stm And now the press are still posting "Liverpool are racists articles". I guess Richard Conway and the other gits who actually report this nonsense are simply getting involved due to some financial reasons rather than actually providing non-biast ****ing news and doing there job the way it supposed to be done. It is just childish and again represents everything which is wrong with today's media! However what are your thoughts? Have the press gone too far? Or am I just over thinking this?
You have points that could be discussed mate, but I think most have had enough of the whole thing. Good post.
No disrespect to the OP, but we've talked the bloody thing to death already. Perhaps someone else will have the stamina to discuss some of your points.
I hate it when someone doesn't get a reply, I'm sure the OP will understand. Welcome to the board mate if you haven't been welcomed before.
Thanks very much XD I joined on the the last day of 606 (or one of the first days of NOT606); I guess you could call it the day of the switch over. So you may have seen me on this forum at the beginning of last year. After 606 closed down. I along with hundreds of others flocked to to the nearest replacement. As you know most of us did not remain active. Im sorry to admit I fell into this category. However I re-found this site on Google again and was pleased to find out I already had a registered account; So I must confess this is actually my return to these forums.
Whilst i disagree with how Liverpool dealt with it i do agree they have intentionally dragged attention from the terry case.
The media are the media - a gang of sick self-serving morons pretending to defend the public interest. We now have Gordon Taylor making comments that are not in the least helpful. Does he not understand that the Anfield crowd reacted to Evra as they did not because of his race but because he was the instigator of what became a farce of an FA tribunal? Or does he merely wish to misinterpret the response purely for his own ends? As with most posters here, I have grown tired of making comments on both the Suarez situation and trying to get my head around what actually does constitute racism. I thought that I had it clear in my own mind but it appears that my understanding is at variance with the majority of the media comment. I don't know where the above leaves us but it is at least an honest response.
