Not true, yes he did clock the player as you put it when the ball was in the air, but thats natural he was looking to see where he was so he could challenge for the high ball. He did NOT stick his elbow out, there is no movement of the arm at all. Yes he did catch the guy in the face but there was no thowing or sticking out of the arm in his face. Get over it, this is a very minor incident in the game and Mcleish's attempt to move attention away from the fact his team lost from 2 nil ahead!

And by the way there's nothing to get over. I'm not saying he should be banned, but for you to say that nothing at all happened and it was just a coming together is just stupid. And yes his elbow DID come out.

Were he to get banned (which is quite possible) then fine, we can't really grumble. What you'd have to see afterwards though is the same punishment being handed out to everybody. When put into perspective with the Lescott elbow it's not even in the same league. By the rules I think both players should have received bans or is there be truth in the insinuations that English players are allowed to get away with foul play?!

The inconsistency comes from the refs. If the power to retroactively ban a player for violent conduct lay with a specially appointed panel, as it does with appeals, then we'd have a system that doesn't allow for inconsistencies in interpretation and it'd also serve as a good guide to referees as to what constitutes violent conduct.

The FA no doubt would say it undermines the referees but it really doesn't as it takes into account the fact that referees only get to see things once and should a mistake be made the ref would not have to hold his hands up and admit it, which could be biasing refs to not change their decision. I don't think Webb wanted to admit he missed two straight red cards against us and so didn't punish the elbow which wasn't getting the media attention like Balotelli's stamp was. Clattenberg, if we're giving him the benefit of the doubt that he's not a huge United fan, probably didn't want to have to contradict his earlier decision that Rooney's elbow warranted a freekick and nothing else.

I reckon he's just bitter because of when Hutton got sent of a few weeks ago. RvP had a go at him just before Hutton fouled Vermaelen if I remember rightly.

Having seen it again, I would have to say that I think there is some intent there, but not to elbow him in the face.

I think RVP has seen the defender, knows he's going to make a challenge, so backs into him with the intention of muscling him out of the challenge. It just happens that at that point, Cuellar lowers his head to stretch to get the ball, as RVP backs in he catches him in the jaw.

Intent? I think RVP intends to use his elbow to try and outmuscle Cuellar, but he certainly doesn't intend to elbow him in the head.

This video does not show the referee who was perfectly placed at the time and waved play on. If he now comes out and says he didn't see it and hands the decsion over to the FA - that would be quite wrong. In my opinion. Thank you.

mcleish is one of the reasons technical, less physical footballers in this country will always be up against it.

his birmingham side were overly physical and broke eduardo's leg, watch aston villa this season and players like warnock and hutton are told to rough opponents up, hutton in particular is a disgrace of a footballer, i wonder how many players he's deliberately injured during the course of his career, many i would have thought.

overall, mcleish complaining about this is like pulis complaining when a stoke player gets his shirt pulled, utterly laughable.

As expected as there was absolutely nothing in this incident except media sensationalism, there will be no action taken on RVP, nothing but an accidental collision as per the referree's decision. Thanks for popping in.
