Still can't make sense of rejecting a - (was it £6m?) bid in the summer when it appeared clear that he wouldn't be signing a new deal. A lot of money for a bottom half championship club.. we paid less for our entire squad!
Said this a million times but their Chairman said recently that he wouldn't go to Leicester. So it doesn't look like they had a whole lot of say in the matter.
dont understand the thoughts , sharp wasnt suitable for us? while ive enjoyed the majestic running talents of fagan and mclean over the last few years, i reckon i could have suffered having somebody who could hit a cows arse with a banjo in the team, able to snap up the numerous chances that koren etc create.
Obviously didnt think Leicester would get promoted. No prem team came in for him so he has signed for a team who have a decent shot of going up. Seems sensible to me.
Theo is spot on - City would have to spend well above the available budget to get strikers who are much better than what we've got at present. I think Billy Sharp would have been a very risky signing for City - a decent striker but not measurably superior to Fryatt (who is admittedly looking well below parr at the moment) or even Simpson or McLean.
This might be a bit random but all the striker talk just reminded me of how frustrating it was on Saturday when Mclean was up front and high balls were being sent towards him which he didn't have a hope of getting, I'm afraid although he is quite springy when he is surrounded by taller players there is no chance of him scoring. Why not play Simpson, just can't understand how he is not getting a chance, all I can think is that Nick must be seeing something, or the lack of something in training that is putting him off. We never seem to have anyone just around the goal area waiting for a chance to score like Nick used to do.
Jutkiewicz went fior 2 million and is no better than what we have. Yesterday he missed a sitter for M'boro. Roberts(that ship has sailed) wages could be an issue and Reading are reported (by SSN) to be making a Bid for CMS from Brighton. Dont see that one happening this window. Wonder if NB will go in for a loan from the PL when that window opens up in Feb. Just saying like.
Maybe Offer Jay Simpson as part of the deal ? But Wolvers are reported to be going after Maynard this window.
That requires a footballing brain and not many have one. Nick Barmby was one of the very few to have one. Nick time to don your boots again. If Scholes can you can. Surely you can play for the last 15 mins or so ?
I see Sam Vokes has gone to Brighton on loan. Another player who would have been great for us. He would be just what we need big and physical and not knackered like big dele.
Saints paid Donny around £1.8 million for Sharpe according to SSN. Did Leicester really offer £3m and got rejected by Sharpe?
As much as I'd like to see Maynard come in I wouldn't want to see Simpson leave either, although I realise I'm one of very few that's bothered about him. I think he'll suit Barmby's suit of play far better than NP's and would get a few goals playing in a formation that included 2 strikers, with Stewart on the wing. Either way I think he needs a decent run in the team rather than making the occasional 88th minute sub appearance.
Yes, it was Billy that rejected Leicester. Maybe Southampton have added the extra million onto his signing on fee.
I also rate OJ. Nick also said he wants to work with him and thats why i am surprised that OJ never got his chance against Crawley on sat. But maybe Nick has seen something recently that has put him off playing OJ. I dont know. Mine was a tongue in cheek comment on the swap.
Maybe Simpson was being saved for Donny and Cullen was stuck on as we were writing the game off, but Barmby felt he needed to be seen to try to change things. We can hope.
