As the Happy Mondays have announced they're reforming with the full original lineup, it's any band where all the original lineup are still alive, and you can't believe it. Bearing in mind my age, Shaun Ryder is the only person that really springs to mind for Happy Mondays so rightly or wrongly I picture a whole group like that, so by rights at least one of them should be dead by now. It's a case of knowing the name, but not much else. I was probably a single digit age when they split up.
Loved the bits on 24 hour party people, where the Mondays manager comes up to Tony Wilson and says Shaun Ryder's addiction is getting worse and there's only one thing they can do and fly the band to the Caribbean where there's no smack and it'll also give them time to record a new album for Factory Records. At this time he forgets to say Ryder's addicted to Methodone now. The bit where the band smash all Ryder's Methodone on the airport floor and when they get to the Carribean, they flog all the equipment in the recording studio as well as their clothes to buy any drugs going, is class. Also the next bit, where Ryder and his manager come into the meeting with Wilson in Manchester with a gun and sell him a tape with no lyrics on, just this dance stuff they recorded before flogging the studio. Top film.
DEEP PURPLE...Mark 2 version. Whilst 3 of them play alongside Steve Morse on guitar and Don Airey on keyboards(after Jon Lord retired from live shows) I would love Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord to go back to the band. Boy can Ritchie and Jon play. Deep Purples proper line up backed by a full classical orchestra is music heaven.
i know a lot of people dont like it, but i think its brilliant all these proper bands reforming and showing the modern day muppets like n-dubz and dizzee rascal how its done.
Didnt they try this a few years ago and nearly ended up killing each other. It will last five seconds. Inspiral Carpets are allegedly going to support them on tour.
I saw the Mondays play Asylum in 2007. There was Shaun Ryder, Bez and Gary Whelan (drummer) from the original line up. Wasn't expecting a lot after their past excesses, but it has to be one of the best gigs I've been too. They where in top form. There was plenty of drink and drugs being consumed, but as far as I could tell that was just the audience
