Sorry, but nonsense. If a player commits a red card offence and gets a re card offence back, they both go off. If the opposition player doesn't commit an offence and our player commits a red card offence, then our player goes no matter how annoying a little gobshite the opposition player is.

If Cabaye delibarately stamped, then the only question is the length of his ban. The fact that the other player did things that did not amount to a cardable offence but got Cabaye all upset is neither here nor there.

Cabaye deserves any punishment he gets, you kick out at someone you should be punished. It's football, you have to wind people up, especially if you're the underdogs. You need players like that in your team, no team has a bunch of proper gents that don't do anything wrong. It's up to Cabaye, the Premiership footballer who has played in the Champions League, to keep his head and not act like a petty child.

Nah Yohann did the right thing. Sometimes you have to give a bit back. He just needs to make sure he doesn't get caught next time. With all the cameras you have to be really cute about how you go about it. Cabaye was sly but not quite sly enough. I'm sure he'll find more appropriate ways to play dirty in future if he is done.

And kicking out is never the appropriate way. Go in hard or even late next challenge, or leave a foot in. Never kick out blatantly.

Funny, I joined this thread as a Cabaye supporter but am finding it harder and harder to stay one. The idea that Cabaye was justified in trying to stamp on someone's head because he was a twat and that he just just work on his cute stamping techique is pretty revolting.

I am far from convinced that any contact was intentional but if it was, then all "the other guy was a twat" goes to is whether it's a 4 matchban or maybe something a little less

I always preferred the intentional late challenge followed by the innocent hands up defence to the ref. Never more than a yellow but they know. Nipping is a good one. Nip their leg as you stand up. So little flesh there it hurts, but it is hard to see. The dead leg is a classic. Always looks like a coming together of legs, just needs timed correctly. Lastly a knee in the back or side when you jump. Kicking out will always lead to a camera spotting you.

Reality of a football pitch at any level. There is no way Cabaye tried to kick him in the head though. The word stamp is not relevant in any way. A stamp suggests downward pressure applied in a forceful manner. They were both on the floor and Cabaye simply kicked out. I understand it and he tried to be sly about it, but as mentioned above there are better ways to get even without being seen.

Of course you must remember to play football. But those suggesting he should just ignore it and rise above it are not realistic for me. Sometimes on a pitch you have to give a bit back to deal with certain characters. Certain players will always seek an advantage using intimidation tactics. Either constant fouling, niggling, words or threats. It happens at all levels. Sometimes you have to break the rules to stand your ground. And you must stand your ground. What you usually find is they don't like it back. Anyone who has played competitive football to a decent level knows this goes on. Not nice but that is contact sport.

As they go past you taking the ball with foot and then as they jump over your leg carry on running so you run into them sending them flying is a cleanish one. The knee to the back when going for a header is great, my mate done it a little too well the other week and ended up knocking the guy flying <laugh>

The intentional late challenge is easy enough to get away with without a card, as long as you turn round and apologise to the player and help them up before the ref comes over you can get away with it.

Fair enough. You want to say that the fact Cabaye kicked someone doesn't make him the anti-christ then I can see your point.

If, though, anyone on here is saying you should try to put your boots to someone's head if they're seriously winding you up, then I stick by the word "revolting"

Should never stamp on someone or kick in the head, but if someone is going in hard and leaving a foot in then by all means do the exact same back to then.
