As I recall we bid for Ayala, all thought we were going to get him even if a lot thought we didnt need him as Hobbs and Chester were a good pairing. I am pretty sure we never bought anyone after that. So around a million quid has been kicking around for 6 months. After yesterday there should be a lot of players packing their bags, freeing up more money. So come on Nick sign a forward or two. Get Rodrigues, Austin or Vokes in for a few million and take a punt of 4-5 hundred K for a div 1 or 2 striker and lets go for it. This chance will not come again.
I think the lol refers to the rodregueiz, austin and vokes reference of the previous poster. We have as much chance of landing one of them as pigs flying.
Adam Pearson's notes before the match stated that we will not be signing any big name signings, as they feel that would completely ruin the morale we have. I completely agree, however i don't disagree with taking a 400-500k punt on a player who might make it, but its not a huge amount of money and worth a risk.
There's no point in signing a forward when we only play one up front and already have Fryatt, Mclean and King who would all expect to be starting, plus Simpson and Adebola waiting for a call.
First of all, we're not going to get Rodriguez or Austin you berk, and secondly, Vokes isn't worth as much as the two of them, and certainly shouldn't be valued at a 'few million'.
so if that's the case, why did the allams come out and say there's money to spend in the january window if we are in a good position in the league? it's maybe just me, but i just don't get it.
i know that, just can't understand why he doesn't want to spend, your not telling me that he seriously thinks were good up front.
No, I think we need someone else, Adebola and Cullen off then we have Fryatt McLean and Simpson and new, I want him to spend!
The underlying issue is that goals aren't happening. I'm sure NB has noticed this, it's pretty ****ing hard not to. We are relying far too heavily on our midfielders. The last time our strikers scored in the league was the 7th of December, when McLean got one against Birmingham. That was 6 weeks ago. I'll hazard a guess that signing a striker would really upset Fryatt and McLean, but they should be spurred on by the competition. I find it hard to believe that NB isn't looking at other options. We are pretty much there with regards to squad balance, but we do need somebody who will, 9 times out of 10 put the ball in the back of the net. There are plenty of options, both home grown and foreign that we could attract to the club on a not so extravagent budget. If NB doesn't want to spend millions, then fine, but hearing him say he is 'happy with the squad he has' is just denial; there are plenty of players who would bang them in for us that are available at an affordable rate.
I know I take digs at Adam Pearson on an almost daily basis, but this is the kind of bollocks he comes out with that makes me feel we're almost certain never to get promoted whilst he's still at the club. How would big name signings ruin the morale? Surely if a youngster's coming up through the ranks and they see one or two big names in the dressing room they're going to wanna raise their game? Or are we only signing mediocre players to make sure our current (let's be honest here) mediocre players don't have to leave their comfort zone? It seems incredibly small minded to me.
Who would you like us to sign, realistically please ? Sharp seems to be off the radar and im sick of hearing about him now. Now i don't know what he'd cost, but i'd be thinking about Darius Henderson. He's scored a few in a poor team, just like Sharp. He looks a big strong strong and commited striker, and everyone has said we need one of those.
If it upsets the fringe players that were trying to play themselves into the team yesterday and they ask for a transfer would anyone be that bothered that they wanted to leave if that's how they're going to play?
Henderson isn't for me, despite him doing well for Millwall this season, he hasn't cut it at other clubs (it took him 7 months to score for Watford in the Premier League). If I had to make a call, I'd go for Erik Huseklepp at Portsmouth. If not, then Madine at Sheffield Wednesday or Gianluca Sansone from Sassuolo (Serie B side, very very talented lad. I know we don't tend to go for overseas players anymore, but I don't see why not.) If he needs scouting, then I'll do it.)
yup I'm gonna mention his name again but in response to the nonsense about ruining morale; if a proven big(ish) name like Jason Roberts with approx 200 prem appearances and 50+ prem goals walks in to a dressing room or training session and that isn't a boost to morale then there's something seriously wrong.
