I also have doubts as to whether he could make the step up to the Prem.

This is all assuming we get promoted!

That was exactly my thinking. If he goes to us or Reading, but Cardiff and Birmingham ultimately join West Ham in the Premiership next season, then he's stuck with another season in the Championship. But stay at Donny for another six months, and then sign for Cardiff or Birmingham and walk straight into the premiership - at least one of whom I'm sure would take him.

Those stats do worry me, but I think our slump has come at the best time, albeit having gone on longer than I would like. When we come out of it, there'll still be enough games, and our position will still be strong enough, that we can hit form for the run in. Your form may very well come to an end at some point, just when you need some fuel in the tank for the push. Always liked Reading, though - be glad to go up together!

On another point of note to those of us who follow the Saints threads, I see Jason Roberts helped Reading do the one thing we have been unable to do this season yesterday. Ironic, considering those of us who felt he couldn't do a job for us. Even if he only played one game, no more stark demonstration of importance than scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win.

I can't be arsed writing all these replies out again so read this thread and it may answer to the arguments that has happened and will happen in later posts. I'm just fed up of the dozen or so times I've typed this every time people think their club are getting Billy Sharp.

Sadly Spike you may be right...........Maybe we should look elsewhere as a player with no ambition is not the kind of player we want.
He certainly would not be approached from a top half premiership team in my opinion. Top half can quickly become bottom half in any division and as soon as teams are down there they are looking for proven players to stop there slide. Any team that is newly promoted would be or should be, doing much the same as we are and that is to get quality players in before we get to the premier. That way they can prove they can actually play with the players which will form the team when /if we get promoted. At this moment in time anyone worth their salt and ambitious and willing to move, would look at the table position and say can I help to improve that...if the answer is yes. Then the team nearer the top......plus a long history in the top flight is likely to get the nod......

Kinda harsh on a player that lost his son, I bet donny helped him with it and he wants to be loyal. Plus his family are settled there etc and I doubt he wants to unsettle them with what has gone on.

Can't argue against most of that BT. Trouble with Sharp may be his Mrs wanting to stay close to where her son is.

Yes guys....... there is truth in what you say.
I was more responding to the guy from Donny who was suggesting he was staying out of loyalty to Donny. For me if that were his only motive then my statement re his ambition would be right.
However he really should make a statement to that effect and that he would prefer to stay local. Clubs would understand and leave him alone....well most would!

I didn't say he was staying because of his loyalty to Donny, although he has shown a lot of loyalty to Donny by turning down Leeds, Burnley, Ipswich and yourselves to stay with us. Yes he did say it was because he wanted to stay with us at those times and that was before the sad loss of his son. I was saying I don't think he will go to another championship club. An established prem club then yes he probably would go.

Beddytare, you need to read things properly and not twist words to suit your own purposes. If you are having difficulties fully understanding written text there are many adult education classes that will help you with your problem. If you are still at school then maybe you should pay more attention in class.

So your definitive opinion is the reason he'll stay put then. That's all there is on that thread.

There does seem to be an illiteracy problem among some Saints fans and maybe Beddytare could take hotbovril along to the adult education classes with him for company.

hotbovril, the quote below clearly shows that I say "it is down to Billy" and I was offering my opinion of these pieces of transfer speculation in other parts of the thread. "It is down to Billy" is a statement I made too show that he is the only one who knows what he wants to do and my opinions are taken from speaking to him and his previous reactions to offers made for him.

" He is settled and seems to be happy with us, I think if a top half prem club came in for him he may go but he has turned down the top of the table championship team so I can't see him going to another championship club.

Who knows though it is down to Billy and offers have come in from Sunderland and Wolves so far from the prem but up to now he hasn't look interested. He knows the fans at Donny will always be behind him, could other teams fans do the same when he has a run of poor games? Will he have to sit on the bench? That isn't a team for Billy."

I can see this thread going on for a long time if there are many more like the two mentioned above, so could a Saints fan with a bit of intelligence please guide them as to what has been said and what their imagination has created. I have only tried to offer a little information and opinion so that your expectations don't get too high and then you become suicidal like Leeds and Leicester fans because they cannot take in why a player would want to stay at Donny instead of going to them.

Good luck with your promotion ambitions and goodbye for now.

    You're boring.

All you have done is agreed that no-one knows what will happen, yet you are using the most ridiculously patronising tone I have read on a forum.

Go away, you are adding nothing to this thread except a terrible attitude and the deluded opinion of an obsessed fan boy.

I've no idea if he will leave Donny and ultimately it will be his decision just as it is in 95% of transfers. You simply posted in such a way as to suggest that you were privy to the reason why he would not leave. No doubt my inability to comprehend will be cleared up when I go back to school with Beddy.

    All the best <ok>

Going back to original topic, I now believe Reading won't be going in for Sharp - latest indications slipping out are that Brian McDermott is now looking to strengthen the defence. Not surprising when you consider the forward line:
    Adam Le Fondre
    Noel Hunt
    Simon Church
    Mathieu Manset
    Cedric Baseya
    Nicolas Bignall
    Jason Roberts
    Tomasz Cywka (Attacking MF)
    Jordan Obita (Attacking MF)
    Karl Sheppard (Attacking MF)

There's simply too many now - and almost 50 players in all on the pay roll. Some will be redundent in the summer, and to me it looks increasingly unlikely that Billy Sharp will make the switch to Reading...

Surprised to learn that written language was even a thing at that juncture.
