    From the Sunday Sun

Newcastle United look to loan deals
Jan 29 2012 by Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun
NEWCASTLE will break their own rules and look to broker a loan move for a defender if Watford refuse to do business on Adrian Mariappa before Tuesday’s deadline.
An informal boardroom ban on loans was put in place following Stephen Ireland’s disastrous temporary switch because it was felt they weren’t cost effective.
But in an acknowledgement that defensive cover is needed, Alan Pardew will be given the green light to make a loan move if the Mariappa chase goes cold.
The Sunday Sun understands United have begun making overtures to foreign targets in the last 24 hours.
Watford have rejected a third bid for the defender – believed to be £2.25m – and United have no appetite for a bidding war.
Newcastle will sanction Alan Smith’s loan move to MK Dons tomorrow, but Peter Lovenkrands – a target for Wolves – has told the Sunday Sun he DOES NOT want to leave St James’ Park.
Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse will return to Tyneside tomorrow after completing their African Nations Cup campaign tonight – both could be rested for the group dead rubber.

Agreed but in all honesty we need Pardew to refind his brain regardless of who we get.

I dont think its desperate, whats the point in panic buying someone on deadline day if Mariappa doesn't come. Aslong as its just cover and not someone totally **** then theres no risk to ourselves and it gives us more time in the summer when we'll also have saylor back

The board should have had a few options lines up though incase this happened instead of just going for Mariappa :(

Nothing really wrong with getting a loan in so long as we're not giving free experience to one of the 'big-boys'
