The Allams did say a few months ago that, if we are in and amongst the promotion chase in January that Nick Barmby would be backed with plenty of money. Now, yes we have made 3 signings this window, but non of them have actually cost us in terms of transfer fee's. So, where is that? Is it still available? However, saying that, I am quite happy with our team and think the only real addition would be a Striker which everyone knows and would like. There are plenty saying "Allams stump up the cash for Billy Sharp" but I dont think that is going to happen. This is not a winge, but like the title says, you can't help but think why haven't we seen what they said? just a thought.
I think it's more down to Barmby than the Allams. He's choosing not to spend big as he doesn't it's necessary.
Well it's either that or Pappa needs to save some pennnies because the Bullard case is going to go against the Club.
Keeping the players we've got is a massive achievement and could well have a cost attached. Buying for the sake of buying's a fools game. If the type of players we want are not there we can't just knit them.
or maybe this defeat will make him consider spending before the window is shut.. he's got to play King again and think is he the answer to our striker issue or is he another Manucho??
Yeah, but it's not for the sake of buying, is it? We need someone to score GOALS! Must say I think Reading have pulled off a bit of a coup with Roberts. Now really can play on his own up front!
It is if it's not the player you want. I'm sure Nick's more aware than any of us what we need. It's finding not just a player but the player.
Yes, but THE player only becomes THE player after he has come in and done THE job! The point there is that you never know who THE RIGHT player is before hand, it's just about opinions. IMHO, we CANNOT get promoted whilst we are scoring at the rate we currently are. At some stage this will come back to haunt us.
the transfer window seems to have been quiet for a lot of clubs so far, so either we will see a flurry of activity (2 strikers and a perm gk please Papa and NB) in the next 48 hours by a number of clubs. as long as we keep all our 1st teamers that is what 100% of the fans want. And apart from Sharp and Roberts, is there any other striker out there to go for (no-one says Tubbs, as Crawley will not sell him yet and after yesterday i doubt either manager wants to deal with the other)
I don't have the scouting resources that City have so any suggestion I could make would be merely from what I have seen on telly, at games or read in papers. But just because I might come up with some names that would be inappropriate for one reason or another, does not mean that there aren't any potentially good signings out there. I look at Billy Sharp and I think he really would do a great job for us. If you look at his goalscoring record in this division in a failing team, it is phenomenal.
Answering the opener to the thread. I thought NB had gone on record saying he was doing no more business and was happy with what he had for this season. Also confirming money was there if he had needed it. (Don't ask for the quotes I can't be arsed to find them, HDM interview I think). We all consider he is wrong on that point and we do need a striker, and personally I think we need another "utility type" defender. Billy Sharp seems to want to come here, he is overpriced, but I just would have liked to see us do some sort of deal, just seems blindingly obvious, you don't get nothing without trying.......but what do I know.
I've been singing the praises of Jason Roberts for sometime and I have to say it's frustrating when he signs up for a promotion rival and scores the winner on his debut, albeit a penalty. There has to come a point when the management team stop believing that that are goals in this strikeforce and take action to do something about it. That run of three 1-0 losses over the festive period should have set alarm bells ringing for when January came around, we shouldn't be firefighting we should have taken immediate action, set a budget and got genuine targets to go after, not be lolling around with 3 days to go and a manyoo reserve to show for our troubles. As an example; Lovenkrands from Newcastle who now have Ba, Cisse and Best all above him in the starting order. Deal to be done? Even the most ardently positive city fan must have a little niggle in the back of their mind that for all the pretty football, lack of goals will be the reason we finish outside not inside the playoff places. COYH
Every other team in the league can score goals having gone a goal down, or against teams that put men behind the ball, we're the one team who can't. I'd suggest that the players capable of doing that clearly aren't so rare because everyone else has them. We are a team playing great passing football 99% of the time, yesterday being the 1%, and it's a massive waste of potential if we leave things as they are and go to the end of the season losing every game that we concede first in, we should be aiming for automatic promotion but our impotent attack isn't going to do that.
I agree, have 1 or 2 strikers that can score regularly will be the difference between promotion or not. Personally I think we are well light up front. I don't know what sort of striker NB wants for up front?
I don't think Sharp has any intention of leaving Donny this window, unless it's to a Premier League team and I certainly don't think he's desperate to join us. I'd love us to try and get Madine, I think he's exactly what we need, but he'd probably cost us at least a couple of million and I've never heard his name mentioned. We have a loan option, but it's not looking likely that it's going to be taken up. It definitely should be.
