    Daily mirror......

Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith is joining MK Dons on loan for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old has played for just five minutes in two substitute appearances so far this season and is desperate to get regular first team action.

But he has been told by Toon boss Alan Pardew that there is no place for him in the Geordies' first team squad.

Dons, who are chasing promotion to League One, refuse to break their upper wage limit, even for a former England international, so Newcastle will be coughing up the bulk of Smith’s reported £60,000-a-week salary.

Smith started his career at Leeds, then spent three years at Manchester United before his switch to the north-east in 2007.

Dons manager Karl Robinson is the same age as Smith, and a club insider said: “Karl has always taken a keen interest in his career over the years.

“He realised Alan wasn’t starting for Newcastle and put in a cheeky offer for the player - not expecting for one minute it would be taken seriously.

“Alan is desperate to get regular first team action, and had a frank and honest conversation with Alan Pardew, who told him he had no immediate future at the club.

“Everyone at MK Dons is thrilled and believe their new star signing will provide the promotion push they need.”

Sky reporting we're still paying 96% of his wages, excessive, but luckily his contract is almost finished.

Isnt he on 60k a week. That means they are paying £2400. Cant be true, surely a Championship team would want him and could offer at least 15 to 20% of his wages.

I'd be surprised if the MK Dons were paying that little. More around £5-7k per week I'd guess. But, it saves us sone money.

    Good luck to him.

    <laugh> I love Cwarr!

The most delusional arsewipe out there. When i think of him, I imagine an overweight, balding, 50 year old wearing a grubby vest and boxers. Living in a small bedsit in Jesmond with piles of out of date Red Top newspapers around him while he thinks of new ways to bullshit over twitter
