So it is OK to abuse players in football as long as it is not racist?

    On BBC Sport:

Interesting take from Liverpool legend John Barnes who has spoken to BBC North West Tonight on any abuse Manchester United's Patrice Evra will face at Anfield on Saturday: "We know Evra is going to get booed. Don't get angry and surprised, as long as it's not racist, because you are allowed to boo the opposition. We're getting a bit caught up in how you can't abuse the opposition - in football you can. That doesn't mean there's animosity from a racist point of view because they're booing Evra".

If this is not incitement to hatred and misbehaviour I don't know what is.

So according to Barnes, as long as you don't use racist terms it is alright to abuse another player. No wonder the game is going into the gutter. Just as the police and United are saying:"let's support our teams properly" we have an old scousers clown derailing the efforts to get good behaviour. I am expecting more abuse from the crowd and more punishment and condemnation for the scousers from the FA and others outside football.
