There's only really one thing you can say about that team.... The defence is all right, but Gomes, Jenas, Zokora, Pav, O'Hara (on the left) and Campbell in the same team
I would say there's only one thing you can say to that comment That team won at Watford, so that's good in itself, and I'll be delighted if we can repeat the same on Friday. There is/was nothing wrong with players like Gomes, Jenas, Zokora and O'Hara. Jenas was a key part of us winning our only major trophy this century in the previous year's campaign, and Gomes was crucial in getting our only CL qualification so far this century the season after. While Pav played a huge part in us getting to Wembley that season. The team overall did very well that season in the Cup, getting us to the final again, only to be beaten on pens by Man U. No disgrace there.
Yep, but we still made the final, thanks in part to Pav's crucial goal. The person who mainly got us in trouble v Burnley wasn't Gomes, but his understudy Alnwick. Now I don't like being rude about Spurs players, but to say he was poor that day, and in general for us, is a fair statement I think. Luckily Gomes was pretty much ever present for us the next season when we made 4th, however he missed the last game, Alnwick stepped in again, again v Burnley IIRC, and the goals poured past him, again.
HI PNP, I think it may be three games conceded 10, as I believe he let in 3 v Man U as well. Why we renewed his contract is absolutely beyond me, he is nowhere near Prem standard, in fact I doubt he will cut it in the Championship if he gets the chance to play there.
It seems as though he's had one good match in his career, against us, and we signed him on that basis
SPURS TEAM NEWS: Kevin Bond has reported a few injury concerns ahead of Friday night's FA Cup clash at Watford. Assistant boss Kevin revealed that Younes Kaboul (groin), Gareth Bale (thigh) and Scott Parker (hamstring) were all doubtful for the fourth round trip to Vicarage Road. "Younes didn't train on Wednesday," said Kevin. "Scotty and Gareth both had to come out of training early. They all felt slight muscle strains and all three are doubtful." Kevin added that Sandro and William Gallas both remain out with calf injuries.
LIVERMORE ON HORNETS: Jake Livermore expects Watford to be 'well up' for Friday's FA Cup tie but insists: "So will we." The midfielder knows the task awaiting us at Vicarage Road in this fourth round encounter. Watford's home form has been impressive of late and an unbeaten run of seven matches stretching back to October was only ended by in-form Reading last time out on January 14. Jake was on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat against the Hornets during his spell on loan at Ipswich Town last season. "It always a difficult place to go," said Jake, who has now featured 24 times for us this season, including starting at right-back in the 3-0 win against Cheltenham in round three. "They've a good side, plenty of good professionals and they will be well up for it, but so will we. "We're all determined to do well in the FA Cup. Every player wants to go to Wembley and to go there with Tottenham would be brilliant." Jake's latest appearance was as a substitute in the final half-hour of Sunday's agonising 3-2 defeat at City. Indeed, he set-up our glorious late chance when his pass released Gareth Bale, who then squared for Jermain Defoe in front of goal, but the striker couldn't reach it. We all know what happened after that... "It was disappointing, but we were all proud of the way we played," added Jake. "we deserved more than we got and we did ourselves justice out there." The gaffer has been great for me, giving me game time and he's not been afraid to put me on in the big games. I started against United, got a run out against City at home and Arsenal, started at Newcastle, then City again. I've been well pleased in that respect.
Thanks for info 6061. My feeling on the team tomorrow is Cudicini; Corluka/Walker, Dawson, Bassong, Rose; Lennon, Livermore, Modric, Pienaar; Ade JD I hope HR picks a strong team for this one, as we won't win the lge, but have a decent chance of winning the fA Cup, and given our absence from Europe, we surely can sustain a top 4 and FA Cup challenge simultaneously.
JENNINGS ON WATFORD: please log in to view this image Pat Jennings can hardly believe it. Whisper it - it's almost 50 years since he left Northern Ireland to join Watford and take the first steps on the road to becoming the world's best goalkeeper. Born in Newry, County Down, Pat moved to England and Vicarage Road in April, 1963. The Hornets were in the old Division Three at the time. Pat played the final two matches of the 1962-63 season before starring in the 1963-64 campaign - at the end of which, Bill Nicholson came calling. Pat joined Spurs in June, 1964 and the rest is history. He played 596 matches for us and won the FA Cup, two League Cups and the UEFA Cup. He was capped 119 times by Northern Ireland, played in two World Cups and won the prestigious individual honours of Footballer of the Year in 1973 and PFA Player of the Year in 1976. And it all started at Vicarage Road. "Fifty years - it seems unbelievable really, looking back," smiled Pat at Spurs Lodge, where he's still a regular in his role as goalkeeping consultant. "One of our former players here, the great Ron Burgess, signed me. "I've great memories of Watford, a smashing club. I could have gone to Coventry City as well at the time but went more or less straight into the Watford team. "There were four games to go at the end of the season I joined, they were in relegation trouble but they got out of that in the first two games I was there, I then played in the last two matches. "I played every game the next season. I loved the club. I couldn't have gone to a better place and had a great year there." The teams meet again in cup competition on Friday night when we make the short trip to Vicarage Road in the fourth round of the FA Cup. "It's Watford's cup final, getting Tottenham down to Vicarage Road," added Pat. "What a fantastic draw from their point of view. "They are mid-table in the Championship at the moment but that won't mean a thing when we go there. "It will be about what we do on the night and I'm sure we'll have the right attitude."
I'd agree with that line up, Ade had a week off and could do with a goal that's not incorrectly ruled out for offside. Might see a surprise appearance from Huddlestone on the bench, haven't heard how he his rehab is going but it'd be great to get him back soon. It'd also be nice to see Tom Carroll and Ryan Fredericks get a place on the bench too for if all goes to plan.
SQUAD: Cudicini; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose; Van der Vaart, Parker, Livermore, Modric; Defoe, Adebayor. SUBS: Friedel, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Kranjcar, Lennon, Pienaar, Pavlyuchenko Looks like we've agreed terms for GDS.
I guess the full-backs are expected to provide the width, then. I'd have actually preferred a weaker line-up that was a little more balanced, to be honest.
