Why do Universities continue to hand out pointless honorary degrees to celebrities? Do famous people not get enough adulation and recognition as it is? Considering some of the people who has gotten them in the past (Mugabe, Gadaffi, Mike Tyson etc) I would say that the whole process has been devalued and it is time to stop handing them out.
If students don't know what Universities there are or what courses they offer then schools are doing something very wrong. Why else would they need such publicity?
I think it's so they've got a famous face at the degree ceremony. Roy Wood got one when my dopey little brother was picking up his, "Doctor of Christmas-Themed Pop Music" at a guess.
It's a business these days mate. Do you have any idea how much St Andrews benefited from having Prince Chinless-****wit studying there? We live in an age of celebrity and if a university can get their name in the paper or some glossy mag then it's worth it.
**** that's depressing that universities (or anything else for that matter) should have a high profile simply because of who attended rather than on merit.
no idea - as I said on another thread ( which also has her on it ) - I got the image from the Hull board. in my dreams I would have said " hang on I'll ask her when she gets out of the shower " There appears to be a babe of the day thread on the Hull board - I suppose it takes their minds off their football team.
