I know I'll most likely be bashed to **** about this, but what the heck. I think it would be worth putting in a bid for him in the summer.

We need a quality fullback, I know Simmo is doing well at the moment, but I'd like to see Santon put to the right and us to get a quality LB.

Everton look like they aren't going to have one of their amazing comebacks this season.

They've lost Piennar and Arteta, two players that played a vital role in their creativity and attacking play. Cahill isn't scoring often for them anymore, and they really lack a striker.

If we finish in a good position this season, say 6/7th and Everton finish in lower postion, would it be worth putting in a bid for Baines?

He's 27 so not young, but I don't see why everyone we buy has to be young.

He's in the peak of his career now really, and still could have around 5-6 years left in him.

Do you think a bid of 8-10 million would get him?

I know there was a load of hype about him last season, and people were talking 20 million, but Everton not as strong as they used to be. They let their main player maker and captain in Arteta go for only 10 million pretty much without hesitation.

Everton need cash for players so I think a bid of 8-10 million would get him maybe?

    Baines-Colo--Saylor--Santon

That's a cracking back four that.

I'd be happy if we signed him, but we won't sign him

No it would not. Everton do need the money, but he will be on very high wages and they wont sell for less than 10 million (8 if we're lucky). And we're not exactly a huge jump up from Everton, if he leaves them it would be for a CL team.

He's a cracking player no doubt, but I could see him flopping here if we bought him. I've no logic behind this, he just seems like one of those players to me.

When you say we're not a huge jump up...

Compare our starting 11 to Everton's, ours is almost filled with brilliant players, Everton have lost a lot quite a bit of quality and don't look nearly as threatening anymore.

If they finished below the top 10, I'd say the jump from Everton to us would be significant enough to attract him.

But I had a feeling about the wages like. He'll probs be on 70k a week at the least :S

Everton finish consistently in the top 10, we havent for years. We may qualify for Europe this season but there's no guarantee we can do it repeatedly. We might be slightly better, but he wont leave them for a slightly better team, it wouldnt be worth it.

If he leaves Everton, where else would he go, the only teams above us who may be interested are Spuds and Citeh?

Doubt we will sign him though.

Cole's getting on at Chelsea, Arsenal need a good LB.

I still think we're more than slightly better like

    -----Ba------Cisse-----

    Jonas-Tiote--Cabaye--Ben Arfa

    Baines--Colo---Saylor--Santon

    ------------Krul--------------

Would be the team if he joined.

That's streets ahead of Everton IMO.

PLUS - Everton haven't and I don't think they will be signing many players, our club doesn't exactly have a massive transfer budget, but we have a good manager, a good scout and have brung in some great players and are still doing so.

Our club looks like it's moving forward, where as Everton looks like it's not so slowly sliding downhill.

I'd say the only stumbling block would be the wages or if he's fallen in love with Everton. If he has big ambitions to play in Europe or move forward, I'd think he'd rather play with us.

We're steadily building foundations for what could be a new era at Newcastle united.

He's not going to sit and compare the players in little formation porn blocks though, bottom line is we're both competing for Europa League but neither in the forseeable future will be in the CL. If he became available he'd have better offers, and if he didnt have better offers he wouldnt leave the club where he's a hero to join a team 2/3 places higher who might even offer less money.

What? You think he would sit and compare us man for man before making an informed choice? No way, it would be "do we offer more money" and "are we in Europe". If the answer to either/both is no, then no chance at all.

I was thinking about Chelsea, but by the time Cole retires Baines wont exactly be a spring chicken either.

    Arsenal wont splash the cash.

No we don't Santos is perfectly capable, just currently injured. Statistically he was the best LB in the league prior to injury.

I was laughing at the thought of Leighton Baines having a look at our formation porn though, not at your overall comment mate.

He'd probably have a cheeky **** over our front two.

Really? I know he was playing well but he's pretty poorly regarded for his defending, and isnt at an age where there's much room to improve. I'll take your word though, you're the one who's seen him regularly.

True, I forget how old Baines is. Could be interest from abroad though.

Why would Baines come here when he will have the top 4 chasing him, when we don't have European football? We can't offer him the money he will want and we won't splash out the fee after buying Cisse whilst also being in need of a CB. Whilst it's a decent shout and he's an excellent player we won't get him.

Also like Smudger said he doesn't like some people get sexually aroused by formations on the internet.

I don't know if I watch different football to everybody else, but I've always thought Leighton Baines was... ****e. That's the word I'm looking for.
