Similar to 606, luckily as a Gills supporter we have a decent following but a lot of the other clubs boards in our division are dead! Not fussed about the gaining of points, i think it leads to some people treating it like a competition to see who can gain the highest level and keep spamming discussions rather than enter an intelligent answer! Jaygills has got it spot on. The posts and points scoring need to be switched off because they create all the wrong incentives for some people to be on here.. Well argued opinions should be welcomed provided the arguments are expressed sensibly. Not606 does tend to suffer from a sort of "herd instinct" with too few counter arguments expressed.

Please keep the responses coming and I will certainly try and answer any concerns.

Points system - I have asked the site owner for this NOT to be fixed, when we upgraded to a new server the points experience stopped working. Although I think the site owner initially said it would be repaired, nothing has happened to date that I am aware.

Due to your posts, I have left a message again for it to remain off.

I have a suggestion that might kick this problem in to touch and that is if it is fixed, we ALL give away our points to a non Gills member (I think you can do that), then that will indicate those that are interested and those that are not.

Please keep all the thoughts coming.

Edit: in regards to spamming for points, I can deal with that, however, I really only like dealing with that situation if you the members ask me too. It is sometimes difficult to gauge what the members want or what I think they want. Otherwise I get a situation as in the Stoke threads and am accused of being a bully.

I was never registered on 606 though used to read the threads, my opinion so far is that this site appears more friendly. I have noticed the odd comment directed at certain posters starting pointless threads but you have the freedom to read or not, or even block individual posters if you wish, so no problem.
As for the points system I never even look so have no interest one way or the other.

Must be getting used to it now because until you mentioned it I had forgot about 606.
The only difference is that I don't think we have upset Scally on here yet and I miss the blue bits on your prediction threads.

Yeah love it on here, I think it is a shame that there is not fans on most or every board, but I like it.

Hoadie - slightly off topic but who was you on the old BBC606, I don't remember you?

To save you the explanations, just post us a link to your old user name <ok>

I seem to only remember HOADIE on BBC606 pluging this site a a month or so before it closed. Might be wrong though.

Nothing will beat the old 606 days, with myself, robbo, the major (before he got banned) etc, and I will always prefer the much simpler 606 layout - there are just too many options on this site for posting. That said, it's good that fans act as moderators and it's been a good alternative.

I'm quite comfortable with the layout, but agree that the post / points should be done away with.

I think the fact that our board is moderated by a fan (I guess that this is true of most boards, but am not certain of this), and that we know who he is, helps keep this board generally friendly, with frank exchanges of views without getting personally abusive. This is, however, not necessarily true of other clubs' boards. One problem with 606 was that the mods were anonymous and seldom had to justify their actions. Out of interest a further post follows illustrating this which I hope will stay available long enough for some light to be thrown on the subject.

    Keep up the good work.

I seem to remember some exchanges between big-silv and the Major. Can you not get him back big-silv? Extreme views I know but always expressed in an articulate and entertaining way!

Partly for comparative purposes, and hopefully partly for my own enlightenment...

Last season after the 7-4 debacle at Accrington (and keeping in mind this was when the non-winning away run was still ongoing) there was a debate on the Gillingham page on 606 regarding the suitability of Hessy as manager. I posted the following message (repeated in its entirely and unedited), which was removed from the thread because it 'broke house rules', specifically citing 'Break the law, or condone or encourage unlawful activity. This includes defamation and contempt of court.'

I looked at this time and time again, and for the life of me couldn't work out what I'd done wrong, and still can't. Has anyone got any ideas?

    QUOTE
For the time being on on the fence with Dazzlingjamiegill. As a Rochdale resident I don't get to see the Gills so often. In fact only twice so far this season to see them score 8 goals. The rest I'm sure you know...

Earlier this week I saw Rochdale beat Huddersfield 3-0, and watching the Gills today unfortunately only served to show the gulf in quality between the two sides nowadays - 2 sides that I saw play two very entertaining play-off semi-finals less than 18 months ago. Since then the quality of Rochdale's football has continued to improve, whereas the Gills aren't playing anything like the same quality of football as they were then.

At Bury in the first half it looked as if the players had first met in the car park outside, and today wasn't much better.

Certainly the first penalty didn't help - I don't think anyone saw that one except the referee - but the second one was fair enough. If you dive in at players from behind these days you MUST get the ball. Anything else and it's a foul.

What I don't understand is why Inkango wasn't brought on in the second half. Both defences were woeful at dealing with players running at them - I think 3, if not 4 of the Accy goals were scored like that, and Cody's goal was at the end of a run. At 3-2 down at half time you have to trust your defence (perhaps after taking the pills), and try to score goals. At 5-3 down what other choices are there?

Perhaps I'm talking myself into the 'Hess out' brigade so I'll stop there for the time being. What is certain is that what's going on on the pitch at the moment certainly isn't good enough, and on the basis that the players are broadly those that Hess wanted to keep or has brought in, it's very much his responsibility to get it sorted out.
    UNQUOTE

If I'm missing something here I fully accept the responsibility of brb to remove this post, but at least I might get to know why.

    Exactly, articulate and entertaining.

Not 'You're a w*****r because you don't agree with me' (but usually with less accurate spelling)

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but there only seems to be one person who's always right :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm

At times being always right can be a bit of a burden. I do try my best not to be too pompous - but sadly too many people do not relish their inferior status - despite the fact that I tell them that they could use their lower intellect as an excuse for being wrong.
