I agree Brendy. I just hope that the vocal minority don't stand out too much. Anyway, this and the Lee news has cheered me up a lot after the crap exam I just did.
Agreed! I was one of those hoping he'd be able to reconcile his differences with the club and come back in but when he kicked off on Twitter the other day, I thought he was an obnoxious little twerp who'd well and truly burnt his bridges and probably going to get the sack. However, if he is truly sorry, comes back in and does a good job then that's a good thing, twerp or not. As others have said, I hope people don't get on his back and give him stick or it'll be back to square one again.
Puncheon can do a job for us, but thought he'd burnt his bridges with NC. I have always admired Nicola in many ways but thought he could be stubborn when he should be pragmatic..he has gone up in my estimation. Compromising for the sake of Southampton.
There are two ways this could work: 1) He rediscovers his form from that side and plays an influential part of the season or 2) He will be a bit-part player I hope he can recapture the form he had when he first signed, I thought he was one of our best players
Equally you would have to say that many of us (well me anyway) have been proven wrong about Puncheon, he could have easily done a Tevez and seemed set up to do that. Nicola can do no wrong in most fans eyes and probably doesn't care too much what we think anyway, Jason is going to face the terraces and whatever they throw his way. Brave decision.
Cant see the point in giving him a hard time if he is in the squad. People who do that are effectively giving our team a red card. Thats the last thing we want in our current run.
NA said he is behind him and has urged the fans to as well Yes he's been a d!ck but forgive and forget and all that. Jut hope his attitude has changed on the pitch as well as off it
Looks like it's all worked out ok but, I am sure that all on here will notice immediately if his "old head" is on within the first 45 minutes of his first game. I agree with the comments that he has apologised and deserves a second chance. Cortese is no fool so he will have to deliver. I for one am looking forward to the new Jason, probably better than most we might have been targetting - if he knuckles down and we get a "new" player too!
I believe he can't play for anyone else if he plays for us, so let's hope he rediscovers his form. Fans should give him a chance. I never quite understood why he got booed so much...I'm sure other players make mistakes as well.
i will take it upon myself to tell any people who boo him for no reason to **** off, i hope others follow suit
I was sure I posted something earlier on this thread, but I can't find it. Just to reiterate what I thought I'd already said, I'm glad of the outcome. I've posted in the past that I didn't see the opposite parties coming together to resolve their differences, but I think the events have finally made it the sensible move. Puncheon has always wanted to play, that we've known, but he couldn't play for Saints. Since his loan deals have stopped and Saints assessment of his value hasn't been matched by other clubs, we've had a perfectly good footballer kicking his heels, wondering what's going to happen to his career. Then along comes the winter injury list, which just happens to be affecting our wide midfielders, amongst others. Eventually, it becomes obvious that a principle being carried along thus far is starting to look a bit silly. So all parties take the pragmatic view and the right ones do the apologising, and promise to do their best, and the right ones do the accepting and say that from now on they'll forget the past and suddenly we have a new, and very capable wide midfielder who hasn't cost anything. Now what we need is for Puncheon to come on in a 65th minute substitution and either score, or provide the assist, for a winning goal. That would give him back his confidence, which I'm sure must be a bit dented, Saints wise, the players to gather round and pat him on the back, and for Nicola and Nigel to realise they've come to the right assessment i.e. we gave him another chance.
Excellent summary TSS. There had to be ground given on both sides to make this happen, and it's great to see common sense prevail. PS Check out the "bogey teams" thread, I posted some info about my friend's song that Andy Partridge recorded.
