Seriously speaking, and genuine answers please... How will our teams performances improve if Clegg was to suddenly resign? What do we reasonably expect of him, and what is his role in the club? I know the majority of town fans here are calling for his blood, but would/could we improve with a different CEO? Is it purely down to the lack of genuine signings? Is it the pricing policy at our club (which in all fairness would be ME's doing) Discuss...
We would be far better off with a Director of Football who actually understands how football works. The best CEO we have had in recent times is Derek Bowden who led the club with great accumen through the dark times of administration and was sacked when Sheeps left the club. Failing him then Joe Royle would get my vote.
I agree about the Director of Football johnniestache and Joe Royle would be an excellent choice, not only for his knowledge and contacts but also because he knows our club and did a brilliant job when last at PR. We need somebody to promote our club (not in the 3 up 3 down sense) positively to fans, media and the wider football industry, tell the owner that he can't keep ripping off the fans, provide guidance to the manager and be a good sounding board for ideas. Someone to show some humility when week after week the team perform badly and hundreds have travelled and paid hard earned money to watch them. Not comment on painting the turnstiles! All those things are not in Cleggs capabilities and I suspect he is a yes man to ME and just occasionally you need someone with integrity who will stand up for what he thinks is right and proper, does Clegg have that? I think not.
i don't think clegg not being there would change results at all, whoever replaced him would be a puppet aswell. he could probably be replaced by a work experience girl who could file and make teas and coffees when required. if marcus evans wanted to communicate with the fans he could record a speech and have it played over the pa at half time. there you go, just saved a small fortune.
I think the only way for Marcus Evans to satisfy fans is to be seen in the centre circle on match day giving a candid interview about what Cleggy's role is, and to keep ihis anonimity intact he could sport some Joseph Merrick headwear......
he could sport one of hogs ample hats which would easily disguise his whole upper torso (apparently).
Kind of feel sorry for Clegg in a way, however, he doesn't do himself favours at times with arrogant comments. I do appreciate the Middlesborough ticket trial they've agreed to do. If Clegg was responsible for this, fair enough. Would as previous posters have stated, prefer someone with football knowledge in Clegg's role......
We need someone who would not just be a puppet. ME needs somebody to be the face and voice of the club on his behalf but that doesn't mean whoever it is should do whatever he says. We need somebody who's not scared to speak their mind from time to time. We need someone who can close deals out and make a coherent plan for progress. Mr Clegg does not fit the bill.
And that's the problem plummy, too many yes men and nobody to tell it like it is and give PR a shake up.
I'm not saying i'd want a YES man but at the end of the day ME is paying the wages so when he makes a decision his employees should do as he says.
Bollocks Just because you are the man at the top doesn't make you right all the time. Every top manager has a good assistant by his side and the majority are not yes men for the sake of earning a wage. The best managers in all walks of life are made to look good by the people under them and how good they are at their job.
so if you were paying someone to do something that you wanted done you'd be ok with them doing what they wanted....................
Totally agree sandiego and for me, someone like Royle would be ideal!! Better still Alan Brazil wouldn't be a yes man and he knows the club very well, LOL!!! Maybe him and the Beat??
I wouldn't feel the need to micro manage someone to the extent that when I say jump you say how high. If, as a manager, I gave somebody a task, I would expect the task to be completed. How you go about it is up to you (within reason) so long as you get it done.
Now you're talking! Someone who not only knows about football but is passionate about the club, something which has clearly been lacking at PR for such a long time. Ok we all know football is first and foremost a business nowadays, as is exemplified by the amount of foreign owners taking control of clubs everywhere, but I would love to get that sense of pride back, from management right through to board level. Clegg out
