I was actually quite interested in this thread until I saw what it became.

I'd actually say that the English leagues are some of the best in the world. The premier league imo is still the best league in the world and i would say the championship is around 5th best in the world and its for good reason. The way the english game is going is combining good determination and passion and physicality with good skillful players who can beat people. The English players in the league are not the ones who make up the better players and this is a reason that the national team are terrible and will be terrible for a while to come

I have to say we do have a Xavi in the making the academy is grooming him he has something different. A bit of Berkamp, also.

A lot of academy products look very good until they are given that all important first team contract and can then never break through. They then go out on loan to try to prove that they are good enough and can't and get released. Happened very recently with a leeds youngster called Will Hatfield, was a very promising 'up and comer' but got his contract cancelled because he never came through.
