A nice little 6 month loan deal? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...ews-Brighton-in-shock-Michael-Owen-swoop.html
Didn't he once say something along the lines of; "I'd rather sit on the bench for a winning team, than play regularly for a losing team." I'm not saying we're a losing team, but he was comparing Man U with Newcastle at the time, and that was his mentality. I don't reckon he'd fancy it.
I think his contract at Old Trafford is up in the summer. If he wants to get one last pay day somewhere he needs to do something impressive between now and the end of the season. Join us on loan, and with the amount of chances we generally make (and miss) he could have a hat-trick and then be subbed at half-time every game. Good return with us would show that he could still cope with playing regularly, even if he just managed the weekend games for us a lot of foreign leagues normally only have weekend games. NB thinking about it there's America and the Middle East where his name would earn him a deal, but it's worth pitching that sell to him.
If I remember he wouldn't come to us when we where in the Prem, what makes you think he would come now
He was 29 and Man U wanted to sign him then. Now he's 32 and looking to find a club for next season but is 5th choice and not playing for his club.
I think you're right about him wanting to impress for a final payday, and you're probably right about him wanting to play. I just don't think he has Hull City in mind. He'll have a lovely, plush place in Cheshire with all his horses, and I reckon if he goes anywhere it'll somewhere not far from base.
used to like owen a lot, lost a lot of respect for him over the last few years, choosing to waste away his career, playing in the league cup a few times a season. very rarely use twitter, but his page is always a good read, whenever he puts a comment about man united and uses the phrase "us" he just gets a barrage of people firing at him, whos "us" thought you retired years ago etc
not saying hes not a nice guy, and i dont blame him for going to man united, he probably believed hed get more games...but signing that extension for this season knowing he would hardly play, shows he isnt interested.
no chance of Owen dropping to the championship don't even think he would sign for a poor prem team, bit of a strange one really seems to hold himself in high regard but happy to stay at united and do sod all, at least he should get games on a Thursday night soon !
bet he wished hed never left, didnt they win the champions league the year after, and 2 years later he was at newcastle..?
He might be a nice guy but he and Deano are poles apart in terms of their view of football.. Deano loves playing it doesn't matter which league, which position (remember he played in goal for Oldham) or the weather, Owen seems to prefer the cushy life now.. A "real" footballer for me falls into the Deano category.. Owen - England international, scored World Cup goals, won trophies with LFC and Man U.. a great player Windass - a living legend. end of.
Yeah he left liverpool in 2004 ,when he signed at united again for this season he showed a lack of ambition, so close to charltons goal record and would of been hard to ignore if playing regular and scoring goals
If Brighton fancy their chances I don't see why we shouldn't. On a short term deal we're nearer his current home, we're higher in the league, we're in form (bar the bit about putting the round white thing in the big netty thing), and we've got his former England (and Liverpool?) teammate as our manager. If he doesn't do anything for the last few months of his contract it's going to be harder for him to get a big contract for next season. It's not an option for him to sit on his arse at OT for 18 months. When he signed his extension though wasn't there talk of Berbatov leaving, and Welbeck being loaned to someone like Sunderland to get regular starts? (Then over the summer Welbeck did enough to jump ahead, and obviously Berbatov didn't leave)
