So, I've just read a statistic that says that, of the 22 games we've played, we didn't win a single one of them last season in the corresponding fixture for the same teams. Sorry if that's been posted before but it got me wondering.

Do you think this is because:
- we've massively improved?
- we've had tough fixtures so far and so it should be easier in the second half of the season?
- it's simply to do with our incosistency last season (e.g. losing at home to blackburn, everton, drawing with wigan etc.)?
- other?
- this is a pointless thread and I should stick to commenting angrily on Mr Tiote?

I think that either way it's got to be a good sign, hopefully pointing towards a strong second half of the season .... we can only hope eh?

Just did a quick bit of maths and we are 20 points better off than in the corresponding fixtures last year, if you say QPR are Blackpool, Swansea are West Ham and Norwich are Birmingham

I have just re read what you said in the OP and didn't believe that it was true. Quite amazing that out of the 18 games that we have played that have not included promoted teams we won none of them last season, I had to double check it <laugh>.

This shows that we had quite a difficult first half of the season!

we have had a rough couple of years but all of our waiting is paying of we seem to be much more stable than we were and things are looking up

here is to the future ............... come on lads we can do this

And we all thought we were doing well under Hughton?!<yikes>

To be fair to Hughton we won some games which we shouldn't have. Such as Arsenal away and lost and drew home games which we should have won such as Everton, Wigan & Blackburn which we have won this season!

Good grief, I'm actually astounded by that fact. We didn't win any of them? I don't ever remember being particularly down over the course of last season either, I was quite happy with how we did, so it just goes to show how much better we are this time around.

And to think people said we had an easy run of it when we had our long unbeaten run at the start!

Our home wins this season are...

Fulham, Blackburn, Wigan, Everton, Man Utd & QPR.

Last season we lost to Blackbur & Everton and drew to Fulham, Wigan & Man Utd at home. What an improvement! (Obviously we didn't play QPR)

I think expecting the same form as we started with to continue all season would have been realistic. We would have probably been title contenders if that had happened.

We've had our bad days, but who hasn't?

Man Utd - 2-3 Blackburn, 1-6 City, 3-0 against us.

Arsenal - 4-3 vs Blackburn, 3-2 Swansea

Liverpool - 3-1 vs Bolton plus all the draws they were getting against lower teams.

We're not the only ones. Hopefully we'll get our players back soon enough and end the season on a high and who knows.

It's one of those stats that you don't believe is possible at first, but I've checked it and it pans out! V impressed we are 6th as a result, though I think a lot of it has to do with our inconsistency last season, losing to some of the 'worse' teams and doing well against the 'better' ones.

When Pardew took over we were 12th in the table, and generally we agreed to reserve judgement until this season - after he had a chance to make his mark on the squad. Well we're now 6th (tied on points for 5th), a fantastic job.

With us being Newcastle we'll now go on to lose all the fixtures we won last season.

As long as we avoid it happening on March 4th . . . .
