Is he gonna do time or not? Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp received $295,000 which he had no intention of declaring for tax purposes, a court has heard. Mr Redknapp was paid the "bungs or offshore bonuses" by former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric while he was manager at the club, it was claimed. Jurors were told secret payments were made to Mr Redknapp's Monaco bank account in the name of his dog. It's worth remembering that Bobby Robson lost his job as England manager straight after the 1990 World Cup finals because he had had an extra-marital affair. O.k., the fuddy-duddies at the FA might have become a little less prudish in the last 20 years, but I don't know if they'll appoint a man accused of tax avoidance. Especially not when money is tight for everyone else in the country and the government is having to cut costs wherever possible. On the upside, he's avoided a straightforward charge of fraud, which might have been possible considering he had the money paid in the name of his dog. Will he get the England job? - it's doubtful.
For that level of tax evasion jail would be guaranteed for the ordinary man in the street, so it will be interesting how this pans out.
He won't go to jail I shouldn't imagine. He SHOULD (any one of us would), but he'll likely get a suspended, and a rather stinging fine. I'm not justifying tax dodging, but it is true that it is bullshit how much you are taxed in the UK, in fact, it's just as bad here.
I ****ing hate everything about Redknapp less one thing, he is undoubtedly a wheeler dealer barrow boy but he is an excellent manager IMHO, everywhere he managers his teams do fabulously well. That said i hope the ****er goes down for a very long time.
At his rate of tax 50% that is £145K of money that could be used to pay for nurses or teachers. He should be ashamed and locked up for 5 years! People who fiddle £5K go inside so for this amount throw the book at him. If he gets away with it how can we call any body who fiddles the social and keep a straight face. It would be one law for the rich and one for the poor. Before any body gets the wrong ideae I am also against anybody fiddling the social as well.
spot on.... one guy fiddling the social a year is what harry gets in one deal, the social guys gets a sentence, so should arry, 15 years melaud, and may the spuds have mercy on his..........team
